There have been some concerns raised about the decision to allow
the Honda CRX to run with the FWD class. This decision was made by me
in error. The wheel base rule is something I had not measured since
the beginning of the series. I didn’t think any car out there that
wasn’t a coupe would be under the 92" minimum wheel base rule. That is
where I was wrong. After I was informed differently that the wheelbase
was too short, we had already let several CRX’s race with us. This is
when I told the few that asked me about running them that it was ok.
The main concern that has come out of letting the CRX run this year
is something we started looking at last year and that is weight. After
weighing the cars a few weeks back and weighing a few more two weeks
ago, we have come up with some numbers that we plan on going with for
the rest of the year. We will evaluate these numbers at the next race
at Mt Lawn on June 13th. The minimum weight for the class will be 2400
pounds with driver. There also will be a minimum right side weight of
1125 pounds. There will also be a minimum front weight of 1440 pounds.
The weight must be mounted in front of the rear hoop of the main cage.
After evaluating the numbers after the race on June 13th we will
confirm these numbers make adjustments.
I apologize for my error in judgment and for any inconveniences
this may have caused. The CRX’s will be allowed to finish the 2010
season. In the 2011 season, the minimum wheel base will be enforced.
For the race at Mt Lawn the CRX’s will have to be a minimum of 2200
pounds.
