Street Stock, Sportsman and Compact FWD Information and Procedures

Thank you for participating with the Champion Racing Association (CRA). The CRA Street Stocks, Howe CRA Sportsman and CRA FWD Compacts are under the guidance of Champion Racing Association (CRA). Glenn Luckett and R. J. Scott are the owners of CRA. Greg Wood is the Director of Operations of CRA. Eddie Chew is the Chief Tech Inspector and Brian Duncan is the Chief Starter for all the CRA divisions. From all of us, the rest of the officials, the promoter, sponsors, and the fans, we all want to thank you again for coming.

Pay attention to the schedule of events on each race day. It is not our responsibility to come and get you. You must follow the schedule and be where you’re supposed to be, when you’re supposed to be. The schedule of events is subject to change so pay close attention. If you have any questions, find an official and ask. Below are the procedures for standard events, and may be different for longer or special events.

All Participating Teams must have filled out an entry form if you are not a licensed member of CRA. This form has the information that will be used by the track announcer, and most importantly, tells us who to pay after the races. If you have not filled out a form you will not get paid. All cars must have a legible number and licensed member have priority on numbers.

Fighting is absolutely not tolerated, and the police have control of the pits. You will go to jail. You will be fined/penalized for entering another team’s pit area during a confrontation. Verbal abuse of the officials will not be tolerated. The race director is the person who makes all the calls. It is the race director you must speak with and only after the races are over. He will be available after the program is finished.

"Sandbagging" is not allowed. All events will have a .3 second breakout rule. Any driver going .3 seconds faster than their qualifying time is subject to being put to the tail and assuming fast time DURING that race. During the race, only drivers in the invert are subject to this rule (excluding the fast qualifier). In the event a driver breaks out and the officials deem it necessary to penalize the driver, the flagman will wave the "black" flag and "blue layover" flag at the offending driver simultaneously to indicate he has been penalized for sandbagging, and he must go to the tail of the field immediately during the race. Once he is at the tail, he may begin racing again. To avoid being penalized during the race, a driver may elect to take the tail of his heat race. In the feature that driver will either go to the tail of the invert, the tail of the cars locked in by qualifying or the tail of the field (whichever deemed appropriate by the officials).

Slow or lapped cars must stay on the bottom anytime on the track and leave a lane for the faster cars on the outside. If you are getting lapped to the inside you are in the wrong place and may receive the black flag. Watch the flagman, if he has a chance, he will point to you and point you down to let you know that lapped traffic is coming up on you.

If you are black flagged, your scoring will be stopped, and you should leave the track immediately. If you do not leave the track within two laps, you will be disqualified (which means no pay at all). The two laps are there for you to make sure that the black flag is for you. The sooner you get off the track the sooner you can get the situation rectified and return to the track. Officials cannot work on your car; they may only assist you with personal safety (window net or belts) you must go to the pit for repairs. If you leave the racetrack for any reason (under red or yellow), you must re-start at the tail.

If you are having problems with your car, leakers especially, please be courteous to your fellow competitors, officials and fans by getting off the track immediately and not ruining the track for everyone else. Watch the flagman, he’ll help you.

Speeding in the pits is a minimum $25 fine and may result in disqualification. Do not speed in the pits.

On the initial start of the race, the responsibility for a good start lies with the front row. The two cars on the front row must be side by side coming out of four. That is where the green flag comes out every time. There is no excuse for the front row not to be side by side coming out of turn 4. On all restarts, once the pace car leaves the field, the leader should slowly pick up the speed until the turn four-start line. No brake checking or slowing down once the pace car leaves, this could result in being put at the tail if it causes a caution.

No racing back to the caution. For the line-up and lap count, we will revert back to the last completed lap where at least half the field has completed the lap. The only time you race back to the line is when the white flag has been displayed to the leader. (The green and yellow lights will be on during the last lap to notify you that there is a problem on the racetrack, but you are still racing back unless you see the red flag).

On a caution, stay single file. Scoring will notify track officials to change your position if there is a dispute. You must stay single file on the restarts as well, and when the green comes out it is green all over and may pass to the left or right. The leader must pick the pace up evenly and smoothly until he gets the green flag and the second place car must keep up. If you jump on the restarts or make an attempt to pass prior to the green flag, a caution may not be thrown, and you will be moved back in the final results or at the next caution. Either way you are just wasting your time.

Lapped cars must stay where they are on restarts or drop completely to the tail. Lapped cars should use common sense and let the lead lap cars by easily. If there is a restart in the last 10 laps of any race, only lead lap cars will start at that front, with all other cars lined up behind them in the order they are running on the track.

If you spin out, don’t wait for the caution to come out, because it probably won’t, unless you are in a dangerous position. Get going again quickly and safely. We will probably wait until you are a lap down to throw the caution. If you are in an accident that requires a wrecker, be polite to the wrecker operators and stay with you vehicle. If you leave your vehicle and they don’t know where to take it, they may take it to the parking lot and let you figure out how to load it later.

If you are involved in a caution, you must go to the tail. If you spin and the caution comes out, you must go to the tail, and if another driver is deemed responsible, they will go to the tail with you. If you want to bump the guy in front of you, go ahead, but if he spins your going to the tail with him, so use your head.

The top 5 of every feature must report to the start finish line after the event and then will be directed to the tech area. Failure to do so may result in disqualification. Do not leave parts or tires in the pit area. People leaving tires in the pits will be fined.

All aspects of these procedures are subject to change at the official’s discretion!

Line up Procedures:

Qualifications will be held, 2 laps on the clock, which will determine the line-up for the 10 lap heat races, which will be lined up totally inverted. The fast qualifier will draw for the feature event’s invert, which could be an 8, 10 or 12. Remember, heat races do not pay anything, they are only for points and practice. Feature event lengths will vary between series and events, check the day’s schedule of events.

If all car count determines that all cars will not be able to start the feature, 1-lap qualifying results will determine the cars locked in by qualifying times (top 20 in Sportsman/top 24 in Street Stocks). The fastest half of the locked in cars will race in one heat and the remainder in another heat, both totally inverted. All cars not locked in by qualifying will be in a last chance heat race, started straight up, where at minimum, the top two transfer to the feature. The final two starting spots in the feature will be the next two cars in CRA points. Event promoters have the option to add additional starters, at reduced pay to start, which may also change the lineup procedures beyond those locked in from qualifying. CRA FWD Compacts will typically draw for starting spots.
