Lakeland, FL (January 17, 2007) – Officials from the
Midwest-based Champion Racing Association (CRA) Super Series, the
Southern-based FASCAR/Sunbelt Super Series and USA International
Speedway in Lakeland, Florida have just released tire information for
this year’s Super Late Model "SpeedFest 2007". Super Late Model teams
and fans will gather at USA International Speedway January 25-27, 2007
for the third installment of the "North vs. South" battle at the
renowned Florida facility. This year’s purse will make it possible for
one driver to take home almost $15,000.
The tires for the event will be the Goodyear 2602 and 2472 10-inch
racing tires. It is important to note that these are the new
generation Goodyear tires and left side tires may only be used on
the left side. For the entire weekend, any practice tires that are
purchased must be removed from impound and may not be used for racing.
When the gates open Thursday, no tires will be pre-pulled and only
practice tires will be pulled and mounted first. At 4pm, teams may
then come back to select and mount their four tires for Friday’s
racing activities. At the end of Thursday’s practice session, teams
may only hold four tires for Friday’s qualifying in impound. Utilizing
the draw for Friday’s qualifying to determine the order of tire
selection for Saturday’s racing, teams will be able to pick out their
eight tires for Saturday’s qualifying/racing. This will be done after
Friday’s qualifying tires have been released.
In January of 2006 almost 60 teams took part in the 2nd
annual "SpeedFest" that brought all the different teams and
sanctioning bodies together. The North 100 Qualifier was won by CRA
standout Eddie Van Meter, while the South 100 Qualifier was won by
racing great Mario Gosselin. In the Saturday night 200 lap finale,
Florida’s Mike Fritts took home the SpeedFest 2006 title. The
inaugural event winner in 2005 was Wisconsin’s Charlie Menard. The
2007 version will once again see a 100 lap North Qualifier and a 100
lap South Qualifier on Friday night, leading up to Saturday’s crowning
200-lap event.
