Ecoff Wins Second in a Row

Winchester, IN (October 15, 2011) – Two Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier Awards and two wins in two races for Damon Ecoff. Until June Ecoff had never won a Sullivan RV CRA Late Model Sportsman race, but he ended the season with a win at Lucas Oil Raceway and then followed it up with a dominating performance during the Winchester 400 Weekend at Winchester Speedway.

Terry Cater started on the pole after the invert and took the early lead. Cater would lead with the drivers behind him changing. On the 24th lap a spin brought out the first of only two cautions. On the restart Bob Sibila, Jr. took over the top spot with Ecoff, having moved up from his 10th starting position, hot on his tail. Ecoff passed Sibila on the next lap and ran out to the win. Sibila ran second, KC Spillers third, Keith Sterkowitz fourth and Terry Cater fifth.

Charlie Hanna took home the AFCO Racing Products Hardcharger Award and the Racing Electronics Hardcharger Award moving from his 17th starting position to finish seventh. The Turn One High Performance Steering Award for leading the most laps went to Ecoff.

The racing throughout the field was very close with the positions being traded with each lap. Sterkowitz started ninth as the second fast qualifer laid back at the beginning and then moved up through the field carefully one car at a time.

Jason Atkinson and Sterkowitz started the weekend locked in a tight battle for the 2011 Sullivan RV CRA Late Model Sportsman Championship. Trailing by 34 points, Atkinson needed a big night to catch Sterkowitz, he needed to finish 17 positions ahead of Sterkowitz to tie him.

"We knew we had to finish so we were being careful." Sterkowitz said. "I have got to thank my car owner, crew my wife and family for letting me do this. Tonight is the first time this year she had been able to come to a race. The crew works on it every week to get ready."

Friday night’s scheduled two non-points races were the Sullivan RV CRA Late Model Sportsman New Stars and All Stars races. Ecoff won the All Stars race, but before the New Stars race could be run the rains came forcing it to be postponed until Saturday. Chad Richardson won the postponed New Stars race on Saturday.

This was the last race of 2011 for the Sullivan RV CRA Late Model Sportsman. The next event will be the Champion Racing Association Banquet honoring the Champions from all divisions. For more information about any CRA division see: www.craracing.net
