Hot Day at Plymouth Speedway
Plymouth, IN (July 24, 2011) - The day
started with light rain at Plymouth Speedway as storms moved
through Indiana delaying practice for the CRA Mid Summer Championships
featuring the CRA Super Series, EDCO Welding CRA Street Stocks and an
Open FWD-Mini Stocks race. Following the rain came the sun and hot
weather as the racing heated up.
Tyler Roahrig jumped out to the early lead
on his home track from his outside of the front row starting position
beating pole position starter Terry Fisher, Jr. to the line in the CRA
Super Series 125 lap feature. He was only able to hold the lead for
seven laps as EDCO Welding Fast Qualifier Award Winner Boris Jurkovic
seemed to be on a rail early flying up to take the lead on the eighth
lap. Roahrig stayed with him and while they raced for the lead the
drivers behind them were bumping and grinding for each position. Ross
Kenseth was pushing to get past Steve Dorer on the 22nd lap
when he pushed too hard and Dorer spun. Both cars went to the rear,
Dorer for spinning and Kenseth for contact that caused the spin.
Roahrig retook the lead following a restart
on the 29th lap, but could only hold the lead one lap
before Jurkovic moved back past him, pulling Fisher with him. Fisher
and Jurkovic traded the lead several times as they raced side by side
setting a torrid pace, and bumping and grinding, leaning on each other
going into and out of turns as they raced. Then on the 51st
lap Jurkovic slid up the track while Fisher washed up also, bumping
Jurkovic causing him to spin. Both restarted at the tail. Leaving
Eddie
Hoffman
in the lead, he would lead the rest of the way.
However Hoffman’s car did not pass post race
tech due to left side weight. He was disqualified and race went to
Kenseth who had worked his back to second. Derrick Griffin second,
Fisher, Jr. third, Aaron Pierce fourth and Scott Hantz fifth.
In the early part of the race the driver’s
short fuses led to several cars getting knocked out. Jeff Lane and
Brian Campbell were each taken out by other cars during the race and
were awarded the EMF Corp. "That’s Racing" Award. AR Bodies Cool Move
of the Race went to Fisher for his moves in coming from the back to
the front to finish third.
Griffin’s second place finish made him the
Rookie of the Race, the VDL Fuel Systems Rookie Award and the K&N
Filters Rookie Award. Mason
Mingus earned the Cometic Gasket Rookie Award as the second highest
finishing rookie.
The VDL Fuel Systems Hot Lap of the Race
Award went to Roahrig for turning the fastest lap during the race. The
Lane Automotive/ISKY Racing Cams Hardcharger Award went to CJ Leary in
his first CRA Super Series start. He also collected the Racing
Electronics Hardcharger Award.
Jeff Lane set fast time then
drew a 10 to start back in the pack for the EDCO Welding CRA Street
Stocks 50 lap feature, with Dave Bice starting in the third row. Bice
jumped through traffic to get to the front and take the lead from pole
sitter Chad Poorman on the 15th lap while Lane was boxed in for much
of the race. But with five laps to go a caution bunched the cars up
and Lane got the second position to challenge Bice for the lead. Bice
would have none of it as he pulled out to a one car length lead to
win. Lane finished second, Poorman third, Jimmy Kirby fourth and
Brian Hopkins fifth.

"The car was good all day."
Bice stated. "I saw it was Jeff (Lane) behind me after that last
restart, but he is a classy driver and I didn't have to worry about
him spinning me. I really appreciate racing with these guys."
Jeff Lane earned his fifth All Star
Performance Fast Qualifier Award of 2011 with a time of 14.841 seconds
over Shawn Amor who had a lap of 14.972 seconds. Eddie Walf was
third, JJ Schafer fourth and Dave Bice fifth.
Darren Harrell, Craig Frase and Eric Frazier
were awarded trophies for winning the different classes of the Open
FWD, Mini Stock race. This race featured three different classes of
cars racing on the track at the same time. Harrell won the Mini Stock
Hoosier Spec Tire division, Frase took the Open FWD division and
Frazier won the Mini Stock DOT Tire Division.
The next event for the CRA
Super Series is the Seal Wrap Repair Tape Redbud 300 at Anderson
Speedway on August 1. The race will feature the best of the CRA
drivers with four CRA Champions currently entered along with Chase
Elliott, Ross Kenseth and Derrick Griffin racing for their first win
at the high banks of Anderson. The EDCO Welding CRA Street Stocks will
be back in action on August 7 at Winchester Speedway, they will be
racing with the Sullivan RV CRA Late Model Sportsman and Vore’s
Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts. For more information about any of
the CRA Divisions go to
