Saturday night with their first ever appearance at M40
Speedway in Jones Michigan. 16 Cars took to the track with points
leader Jason Atkinson taking fast time in qualifying followed by Keith
Sterkowitz, Brett Robinson, Mark Lambert and Mike Horvath in the top
5.
On a beautiful night at the 3/8's mile, Mike Cannon took the early
lead at the drop of the green flag. With an invert of 12, fast
qualifiers would have to work their way through a tough field. Sixth
place starter Rick Everidge would take the lead early in the race and
began to check out on the field. It was evident early that Sterkowitz
and Atkinson would be marching their way through the field trying to
catch Everidge at the point. An exciting race with traffic all the
way around the race track, kept the tension high, but caution never
flew until lap 61.
Its was the break that Sterkowitz and Atkinson needed. With the use
of CRA's double file restarts, it was anyone's ballgame.
On the restart with 14 to go, Stekowitz battle side by side with
Everidge for two laps, before being able to power away. Atkinson
would soon follow him into second place. Those top 3 survived two
late race restarts to hold those positions at the finish. Mark
Lambert and Mike Cannon rounded out the top five. Positions 6 through
10 were Brett Robinson, Rick Sullivan, Trey Craig, Rich Segvich, and
Mark Parker.
Sterkowitz took the AFCO Racing Products Hardcharger
award. For leading the most laps Everidge won the Turn One High
Performance Steering Award.
With his strong second place finish, Atkinson will retain his point
lead. In victory lane, Sterkowitz noted "We had a great race car
tonight. Jason's running really strong too, so he's going to be hard
to catch in points...so we will just go out the rest of the season and
try to win more races."
The Sullivan RV CRA Late Model Sportsman will back in
action on Saturday, July 23rd at Anderson Speedway in the
McGunegill Engine Performance 100. Also running
will be the 62nd Annual Best Way Disposal National Crown.
