Hopkins Survives to Win

Anderson, IN (June 25, 2011) – With 73 of a scheduled 75 laps in the books Josh Poore looked to be a shoo-in for his third straight EDCO Welding CRA Street Stocks win at Anderson Speedway (going back to the 2010 season) and his ninth win in a row at the speedway. But Beau Mitchell was spun in the second turn, and on the restart Poore and Rick Tharp came together while attempting to get to the same spot causing both to spin toward the infield as the rest of the field came racing behind them. After the dust settled, Brian Hopkins was left as the leader, and on the ensuing green/white/checker restart he held off Rich Segvich to get the win.

"If those guys wanted to beat each other out and give it to me, I will take it….. I’m looking to get a few more wins this year."  Hopkins stated after his second win in 2011.

Josh Poore and Jeff Lane are the only two EDCO Welding CRA Street Stocks who have earned the Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier Award in 2011.  And they ended up first and second at Anderson Speedway with josh Poore getting second of the season with a lap of 13.810 seconds.  Lane (with three Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier Awards) was second at 13.925 seconds.  Beau Mitchell was third, Ronnie Rose fourth and Ryan Amonett fifth.  Poore then drew a 12 for the invert putting Jake McElfresh on the pole and Rob Allman on the outside if the front row.

Rob Allman jumped out to the early lead from his front row starting position. He seemed to be cruising as drivers jockeyed for position behind him for the right to challenge him for the lead. Allman survived a challenge on the sixth lap when JP Crabtree spun when working his way around the lapped car of Eric Clevenger. Lane, who started the night as the point leader, became involved as cars swerved to avoid the spin, causing Lane to hit the outside wall, and forcing him to the pits for repair. Lane was able to return many laps down, but finished to hold onto the lead in the Championship Points race.

On the 30th lap Pam Neal lost the engine in her car causing a spin that gathered up another car and a red flag to clean the track. During the red flag, Allman’s car overheated causing him to head to the pits and giving the lead to Rick Tharp.

Ryan Amonett, in only his second EDCO Welding CRA Street Stock start, held off veteran Mitchell for several laps with Mitchell on the inside on the tight ¼ mile oval. On the 47th lap Amonett and Poore got hooked coming down the front stretch with Amonett again on the outside as he went into the wall ending his night. For his efforts at holding off Mitchell, Amonett was awarded the AR Bodies Cool Move of the Race. Tharp held off all comers until Poore got past him on the 68th lap after a very tough battle between the two.

Tharp earned the Turn One High performance Steering Award for leading the most laps. Segvich earned the Taylor Cable Products set of Wires for finishing second and the TCI Hardcharger Award for moving from his 22nd starting position to finish second. He also takes home the McGunegill Engine Performance Award and Landrum Performance Springs Award.

The EDCO Welding CRA Street Stocks will be back in action on July 3rd at Angola Motor Speedway along with the CRA Super Series picking up the rescheduled event from May 30th. The Sullivan RV CRA Late Model Sportsman will be racing on July 2nd in the Stark’s Pack the House Night at Angola. For more about all the CRA divisions see www.craracing.net.
