The race was scheduled for June 21, but a rainstorm
just as qualifying was about to begin caused a delay until the next
day. When the event was able to go forward Busch took the Lane
Automotive Fast Qualifier Award with a lap of 16.086 seconds, just
ahead of Peter Cozzolino at 16.111 seconds. He then drew a seven for
the invert putting veteran Tim Steele on the pole and the 2009 Rowdy
251 winner Brian Campbell on the outside of the front row.
Campbell jumped out to lead the first lap, when
VanDoorn took over passing for the lead on the second lap. VanDoorn
took off, running out to long leads at times as the race kept the
green flag out for the first 76 laps before a spinning car caused the
first caution of the evening. On the 85th lap Cozzolino and
Tom Thomas spun causing several other cars to collide leading to a red
flag. VanDoorn maintained the lead on the restart until Busch passed
him for the first time on the 105th lap.
Busch then led until the halfway break earning the
Sun Drop Halfway Leader Award and RaceTrailerSales.com Halfway Leader
Award. After the break VanDoorn regained the lead powering past Busch
on the 128th lap. From there they traded the lead with five
lead changes in the second half of the race. The drivers used both the
high and low side as they battled for the lead, never visibly touching
each other, but also not more a few car lengths apart, usually closer
than a few feet.
A second red flag flew on the 157th lap
when Campbell was bumped sending him into the second turn wall hard
backwards, and a second multi-car accident blocked the track and ended
Campbell’s night as he was also hit head on.
A late caution on lap 235 sent most of the leaders
to the pits for tires, only VanDoorn of the lead lap cars stayed on
the track. Following the caution, Busch worked to set himself up to
pass VanDoorn, when a flat right front sent VanDoorn spinning into the
second turn wall backwards just after Busch had passed ending
VanDoorn’s night and leaving Busch to run away for the win in the last
five laps.

during the race.
