Circle City Classic Heats Up Lucas Oil Raceway

Clermont, IN (June 12, 2011) – The CRA Circle City Classic Presented by Dave’s All-American Pizza and Eatery and SealWrap Repair Tape raced on a beautiful late spring Sunday afternoon, with bright sunshine and perfect temperatures. The racing was close, exciting, and featured one first time winner in any CRA division.

On a brilliant move with eight laps to go to take the lead from Scott Hantz, Brian Campbell took the win in the Seal Wrap Repair Tape 100 Presented by McGunegill Engine Performance.  The race featured tight, tough racing through out the field as the drivers fought for each position.  As the laps wore down Hantz, Campbell and Derrick Griffin jockeyed for position at one time coming down the front stretch three wide, but Campbell held them both off for the win.  Hantz finished second, Griffin third, Jay Niewiek fourth and Ross Kenseth fifth.

"I am very happy to get this win, it was tough out there today."  Campbell stated.  "I would not be here without my crew, car owner and my sponsors, McGunegill Engine Performance, Perfect Circle Racecars and Track Tek."

Kenzie Ruston, in her first CRA Super Series race, was fastest in each practice, but the veteran Scott Hantz took the EDCO Welding Fast Qualifier Award for the Seal Wrap Repair Tape 100 Presented by McGunegill Engine Performance with a time of 21.676 seconds, Ruston was second at 21.771 seconds.  Boris Jurkovic was third, Griffin McGrath fourth and Peter Cozzolino fifth. Hantz then drew a four for the invert putting McGrath on the pole, with Jurkovic on the outside of the front row.

McGrath jumped out to the early lead, but Jurkovic took the lead on the 13th lap when McGrath dropped back with a problem. He held the lead until the 52nd lap when Hantz took it.

Hantz seemed to have the race in hand until the 92nd lap when he committed to pass a lap car late, allowing Campbell to make his move to take the lead. With a late caution several drivers tried to get to the same spot at the same time causing two multi-car pileups taking out several cars. Included in the melee was Jeff Lane, who had pitted early, restarted at the tail of the field following an early caution, and worked his way through the field to seventh on the track with a third Top 5 finish in 2011 within reach when he was caught up by a spinning car, crashed into the inside wall hard at the end of the front stretch and then clipped by another car ruining what had been a very good run.

For his move that took the lead Campbell took home the AR Bodies Cool Move of the Race. The Turn One Lap Leader Award went to Hantz for leading the most laps. The VDL Fuel Systems Hot Lap of the Race Award went to McGarth for turning the fastest lap during the race.

Jay Niewiek and Jim Crabtree, Jr took home the Hoosier Racing Tire Performance Awards. Niewiek also earned

the Lane Automotive/ISKY Racing Cams Hardcharger Award for moving up an incredible 22 places during the race. Derrick Griffin took his third straight Rookie of the Race Award as the highest finishing rookie with his third place finish after challenging for the win in late race action.

Damon Ecoff charged to the front took the lead on the lead on the 13th lap and ran away from the field to win the Dave's All American Pizza and Eatery 40 for the Sullivan RV CRA Late Model Sportsman Series at Lucas Oil Raceway.  This is Ecoff's first Champion Racing Association win in any division.  Jason Atkinson, the All Star Performance Fast Qualifier took second, Jeff Lane third, Brett Robinson fourth and Josh Cave fifth.

"I knew we could win one here, I am just so happy to get one."  Ecoff stated.  "The car was great, it just kept coming to me, it got better through the race."

The Definitive Auto Sales 40 for the EDCO Welding CRA Street Stocks was dominated by 20 year old Frank Kimmel II. He started his 34 lap reign at the beginning of the sixth lap and never looked back. "There was a lot of good racing. I felt we had a second or third place car, but made some great adjustments during practice and it surprisingly worked out", said Kimmel II.

The 72 car of Kimmell II had some tough competition as the field battled for position with six cautions during the feature.  Kimmel Made just one pass to gain the lead, but he had 34 additional laps to hold onto that first position. "My best move of the race was the pass for the lead, but more importantly the cars ability to run on the bottom", said Kimmel II.  Veteran Street Stock competitor Chuck Barnes, Sr. finished in second and Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier Jeff Lane third, and will now be the series points leader.

The 13 of Jeff Shelmadine grasps a victory at the Vore’s Welding & Steel 20 presented by Definitive Auto Sales.  The Fort Wayne, Indiana native began the race in 14th position. He, along with the rest of the field, drove a clean race as four wide and three wide racing introduced the field for the first few laps.

"The beginning of the race made me nervous with the field racing four wide. I was glad to make it through and end the day with a clean race", said Shelmadine.

The Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts ran a clean race with a few bumps along the way. The race began with one caution between the 44 car of Stephanie Bigelow and 31 car of JR Vester in turn three.  Jeff Shelmadine battled the 117 car of Ryan Hoffman for his first place finish in the last four laps of the race. "My best move of the race was passing the 117 for the lead. He drove a clean race but I had to try three times to pass before I finally made it by", said Shelmadine.  The Shelmadine finished first, Hoffman second, and Kyle Crump third.
