Sterkowitz and Poore Win Convincingly at Anderson Speedway

Anderson, IN (April 23, 2011) – Keith Sterkowitz narrowly avoided a couple of early accidents when others bounced off walls and spun in front of him to patiently work his way through the field on his way to the Sullivan RV CRA Late Model Sportsman win. On the same night Josh Poore started 12th, pushed through the field to get to the front took the lead on the 40th lap to win the EDCO Welding CRA Street Stocks feature at Anderson Speedway.

Bret Miles, Jr. set fast time for the Sullivan RV CRA Late Model Sportsman with a time of 13.246 seconds just .035 seconds ahead of Sterkowitz to earn the Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier Award. Miles then drew a 10 for the invert putting Anderson veteran Jason Atkinson on the pole.

Atkinson, coming off his win at the Cabin Fever 200 race at Plymouth Speedway, took the early lead as craziness happened behind him. As Atkinson came through the fourth turn on his second lap, Miles, Rick Rinehart and other cars came together as they raced toward the third turn nearly catching Sterkowitz up in the accident. Miles and Rinehart hit the corner by the entrance to the track from the pits. Both drivers hit the wall head on and Miles spun down onto the track and collected Mark Livesay in the accident. All the drivers were uninjured.

Following the restart Damon Ecoff seemed to have handling problems as he nearly spun a couple of times in the next two laps and on the fourth lap disaster struck again as he spun when he was hit from behind in the middle of a large pack of cars causing an accident that collected several the of the fastest cars on the track. But again Sterkowitz slipped through. "I saw a car starting to spin out there and I kept thinking, don’t spin now don’t spin now as I came through there." Sterkowitz said later.

KC Spillers took the lead from Atkinson on the eighth lap just before another couple of caution periods. Spillers was able to hold the lead until just after taking the crossed flags marking half way when the caution flag few again. Sterkowitz then in second pulled past him for a lead he would not give up on the restart.

A flurry of restarts in the closing laps gave Atkinson a chance to take the lead, but Sterkowitz was too strong as he took the Turn One High Performance Steering Award for leading the most laps.

"I had a good car tonight!"  Sterkowitz commented.  "We worked on it all day, my crew chief Bobby Blount, and the car owner John Marshall set this car up, we could go high or low it was great."

Rookie Contender Chris Parker took the AFCO Racing Products Hardcharger and Racing Electronics Hardcharger Awards moving up 22 places after starting 31 finishing ninth in for his first Sullivan RV CRA Late Model Sportsman Top Ten finish. Mark Livesay took home the DJ Safety Hard Luck Award. Jason Atkinson, Rookie contender Lucas Krick and Randy Hoppes won the heat races to kick off racing on this Saturday night.

The EDCO Welding CRA Street Stocks Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier Josh Poore set a new track record turning a lap of 13.766 seconds over Josh Myers. He then drew a 12 for the invert putting Anderson Speedway veteran Rob Allman on the pole. On the first lap Allman traded paint with Danny Smith who started on the outside of him causing Allman to develop a flat tire, and the first caution as Allman came to stop on the track.

Smith led the first 25 laps until Dave Bice passed him just after the halfway point pulling Poore with him. Poore looked high and low to get around Bice, but could not find a way to get past him until Bice slowed on the 39th lap and dropped out trailing a cloud of smoke on the 40th lap. From there Poore pulled away, slowed just once due to the race's fourth caution on the 44th lap.

"I knew after I drew that 12, I was going to have to be aggressive about moving up to get this win."  Poore stated from Victory Lane.

For leading the most laps Danny Smith received Turn One High Performance Steering Award. Smith also earned a set of wires from Taylor Cable Products for his second place finish. Poore took home the Crumrine Buckle Manufacturing custom belt buckle for winning.

Billy Van Meter started 23rd and finished 10th earning the TCI Automotive Hardcharger Award. The DJ Safety Hard Luck Award went to Shawn Amor. David Bice, Randy Hoppes and Frankie Oakes won the EDCO Welding Street Stocks heat races. It was Hoppes second heat race win of the night after he also won his Late Model Sportsman heat.
