Cabin Fever 200 Kicks Off CRA Season

Plymouth, IN (April 10, 2011) - Three Champion Racing Association divisions kicked off 2011 season at The 2nd Annual Cabin Fever 200 on a warm April afternoon at Plymouth Speedway. The event featured two divisions with new title sponsors, two new track records and a first time CRA winner.

 

The EDCO Welding CRA Street Stocks started things off with a bang with Jeff Lane shattering the track record turning a lap at 14.186 seconds to earn the Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier Award. Dave Bice was second at 14.833.  Shawn Amor was third, Steve Christman (defending EDCO Welding CRA Street Stocks Driver Champion) came in fourth and Eddie Wolf was fifth.  In all 16 drivers broke the old track record on a very fast track. Lane then drew a 10 for the invert putting Chad Poorman on the pole.

Starting in the pole gave Poorman the boost he needed to get his first EDCO Welding CRA Street Stock win as he took the 75 lap feature.  Poorman led the first 19 laps of the race until Dave Bice pulled ahead for a few laps before he dropped out on the 35th lap.  Poorman retook the lead on the 31st lap and held it to Victory Lane.  Josh Poore took second, Wolf third on a last lap pass of Lane who finished fourth and Troy Moyer fifth.

 

"It feels good to finally win one."  Poorman commented.  "I have to thank all the people that made this possible, my owner, my sponsors and all the people that help me work on it."

 

The Turn One Performance Steering Lap Leader Award was taken by Poorman for leading the most laps during the event. Josh Myers earned the TCI Automotive Hardcharger Award for moving up 15 positions from his starting position.

After a rocky beginning of the race that included two complete restarts, the Sullivan RV CRA Late Model Sportsman settled in for a very clean race with the first caution coming on the 64th lap.  When the caution flew pole sitter Nick Pressler had a good lead on second place Jason Atkinson, who had worked his way up to the front.  On the restart, Atkinson took the lead and fought through another pair of late cautions to win.  Bret Miles, Jr in his first Late Model Sportsman race finished second, Charlie Hanna was third, Nick Pressler fourth and Mark Lambert came home fifth.

"I have a lot of guys to thank!" Atkinson commented.  "These guys were working on this car until 4 am Saturday so we could go racing.  And I have to thank them."

 

Flying Brian Ross lived up to the name setting fast time with a lap of 14.013 seconds, .190 seconds faster than the second fast qualifier to take the Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier Award.  Miles’ time of 14.203 was fast enough to keep him ahead of third fast qualifier, Jason Atkinson, John Marshall was fourth and Rick Rinehart fifth. Ross drew an eight putting Pressler on the pole.

 

Ron Maynard led all 15 laps of the Last Chance Race to earn his way into the feature.  Chris Parker was second for the next starting spot, Kevin Claborn third, Mark Parker fourth and Mark Livesay fifth.

In the Vore’s Welding and Steel CRA FWD Compacts non-points race Tom Hellinga started 10th, but made short work of getting to the front of taking the lead on the fourth lap and holding on to win.  Ryan Hoffman finished in second, Scott Ross third, tom Taylor fourth and Jeff Shelmadine fifth in a race that had only one caution.  Tom Hellinga set a new track record for the Vore's Welding and Steel CRA FWD Compacts at Plymouth Speedway with a lap of 16.506 seconds.  Tom Taylor was second at 16.686, Scott Ross third, Jeff Shelmadine fourth and Rick James fifth.

The next event for the Sullivan RV CRA Late Model Sportsman and EDCO Welding CRA Street Stocks will be April 23 at Anderson Speedway. The Vore’s Welding and Steel CRA FWD Compacts first points race will be May 1 at Winchester Speedway. The CRA Super Series will be opening its season at Anderson Speedway on April 16 with the Seal Tape 125 presented by Great Deals Magazine.
