Maynard Jr. Gets First CRA Win at Plymouth

Plymouth, IN (August 30, 2010) - On a beautiful August evening, Ron Maynard, Jr. went to Victory Lane in the Howe CRA Late Model Sportsman Series event at Plymouth Speedway Saturday night, it was his first ever CRA win. John Barlow finished in second, Kale Asztalos was third, Joe Beaver fourth and Bob Sibila was fifth.

Earlier in the day, twenty-eight teams signed-in to compete in the 75-lap affair. Tony Dager & Greg Gifford experienced mechanical problems in practice leaving 26 cars to start the race. Derrick Griffin set fast time in Allstar Performance qualifying and then drew a twelve for the invert. John Heck and Sibila brought the field to the green flag with Sibila taking the lead and holding it for the first 19 laps. Maynard got by Sibila on lap 20 and led to the checkered flag.

Series point’s leader Charlie Hannah ran the first few laps with fuel leaking from a loose gas cap on his machine. After getting that problem rectified under the first caution, Hannah was forced to restart from the tail. Hannah mounted a strong charge to finish seventh. Jason Atkinson came into the event second in points, but suffered a cut left front tire, relegating him to a 19th position finish.

Beaver started in 9th and made the outside work as he advanced into the top three late in the race. Beaver mounted a late race charge to the front, getting around the second place car of Barlow on the outside with just a couple laps to go. He slid high in turn three gunning for the lead and slid back to finish 4th. Sibila held on to a hotly contested fifth place finish.

The race was very competitive throughout, as all 15 cars running at the end were on the lead lap. David Campbell suffered the hardest impact of the night, when he pounded the wall coming off of turn two on lap 29. Mark Lambert came from his 23rd starting position to finish a hard earned 9th place finish.
