– Anderson’s Rob Allman turned in a dominating performance leading all
75 laps to capture the Champion Racing Association Street Stock
feature at Anderson Speedway on the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Night
at the Races on Saturday.
With the fastest 10 cars
inverted for the start, Allman started on the pole position alongside
Rich Boyer and rocketed into the lead. Boyer was able to stay close to
Allman until lap 10 when he was black flagged as the result of a
leaking valve cover.
"This is my first CRA win and I have to thank Motion
Motors and Outlaw Racing without them it would not have been
possible." Allman commented. "I also want to thank my
sponsors, my crew, and everybody that stuck in there and did it.
It is easy when you are driving a car that ran like this one did
tonight."
That moved Kentucky driver Rick Erwin and he was
able to hold off Brian Hopkins to record the second and third place
finish.
There was spirited racing for the second to fifth
position over the final five laps with Parham holding off Jeff Lane,
who twice made pit stops during caution periods and fought his way
back to a fifth place finish.
The best racing of the night took place in the
middle stages of the race with Calvin Parham and fast qualifier Josh
Poore battling side by side for the fifth position. Poore was finally
able to get inside of Parham on lap 32 coming off the second corner.
But Poore’s bid for victory ended on lap 43 when he tangled with the
lapped car of J.J. Schafer on the back straight. Poore and Steve
Christman suffered flat tires after making slight contact following
the main incident.
The race was red flagged on lap five when Shawn
Smith lost his brakes entering turn three and made heavy contact with
Larry Lathan. The incident also collected John Weisenauer and Rod
Phipps. The race was slowed by five cautions.
Allman earned the Turn One High Performance Steering
Award for leading the most laps. He also earned the Crumrine Buckle
Manufacturing custom best buckle to commemorate the victory. Erwin
took home the McGunegill Engine Performance Award. Frankie Oakes
earned the TCI Automotive Hardcharger Award for finishing 11 spots
ahead of where he started.
The next race for the CRA Street Stocks will be the
MAX 40 at Winchester Speedway during the exciting
World
Stockcar Festival Labor Day weekend. The weekend will also feature
the CRA Super Series in the McGunegill Engine Performance 100, the
Howe CRA Late Model Sportsman, Vore’s Welding and Steel CRA FWD
Compacts, the USA Modifieds and Thunder Endro Cars as well as the
legendary Labor Day party featuring the band Crossfire in the pavilion
Sunday night. For more information about the World Stockcar Festival
