VanDoorn Noses His Way to Victory

Toledo, OH (August 13, 2010) - After being knocked out of a third place finish at the Redbud 300 on the last lap of the race Johnny VanDoorn was not going to let anyone stand in his way to victory in the Klotz Synthetic Lubricants 100 Presented by Spray Power at Toledo Speedway Friday night.  On the 64th lap Scott Hantz was blocking down on VanDoorn as Hantz was trying to maintain his lead when VanDoorn used the chrome horn to knock Hantz loose to slip under him for the lead.  VanDoorn then ran out to a large lead as Hantz battled Joey Miller for second.  Miller took second, Hantz third, Nick Gullatta fourth and Brian Campbell finished fifth.

"Scott and I have raced together a lot in outlaws and in these cars since I was 17 years old, and he has been doing it for a very long time."  VanDoorn stated.  "He holds his ground and doesn't give in.  I poked my nose in there and he didn't move and I got to do what I got to do. I’m kind of getting sick of being the nice guy especially after the Anderson deal. So we stiffened the right front bumper up like I said on Facebook and it came in handy. "

The race was a runaway early as Miller took the lead on the third lap and ran out to a long lead. At a track known for long green flag runs Miller took for advantage of the 40 lap green flag run to take a nearly a half a lap lead while VanDoorn and Hantz battled for second and the cars further back fought for each position as if it were the last lap.

A caution on lap 55 when several lapped crashed bunched the field up. On the ensuing restart Hantz, who had beaten VanDoorn for second at that time was able to pull even with Miller and the two raced side by side from the 56th to the 62nd when Hantz completed the pass dragging VanDoorn with him. Miller’s car developed problems as his engine started to sour a little and he could not keep up with the leaders for a few laps.

VanDoorn then set his sights on Hantz who held him off for a couple of laps before VanDoorn bumped him coming out of the fourth turn sending Hantz high and giving him room to pass for the lead on the 65th lap. Miller’s car came back to life and he caught Hantz, and as the laps wound down converted a bump and run on the 91st lap and hung on to finish second in the second long green flag run as the last 45 laps of the race were run without a caution.

Miller took the EDCO Welding Fast Qualifier Award beating Hantz by .029 seconds. He then drew a three for the invert putting VanDoorn on the pole, with Hantz on the outside of the front row. VanDoorn took the early lead before Miller drove by to take the lead on the third lap. Miller also took the RaceTrailerSales.com Halfway Leader Award, the AP Bodies Cool Move of the Race Award and the Turn One Lap Leader Award for leading the most laps.

Campbell and John Long took the Hoosier Racing Tire Performance Awards. Tony Dager grabbed the Lane Automotive/ISKY Racing Cams Hardcharger Award by gaining eight places during the race. No one claimed the Team Construction Clean Sweep Award as Miller was unable to convert his being fast qualifier into a race victory.

Rookie of the Year contender Nick Gullatta had his best ever showing in the CRA Super Series with a fourth place finish earning him the Perfect Circle Racecars Rookie of the Race Award as well as the VDL Fuel Systems Top Rookie Award. Long took the Cometic Gasket Second Highest Finishing Rookie Award.
