Last Lap Pass Gets Win for Minich Jr.

Angola, IN (July 5, 2010) – Ft. Wayne, Indiana native Steve Minich Jr. only got to lead one lap in Friday nights Howe CRA Late Model Sportsman Series ProFab 75 at Angola Motor Speedway, but it was the final lap giving him his second straight victory with the series at Angola. Derrick Griffin was in the lead at the white flag when Minich made his move on the back stretch, finally getting underneath Griffin coming out of turn four with Charlie Hanna almost making it three wide. Minich Jr. got the win by a few feet over Griffin with Hanna right behind in third.

"Wow what a race!" remarked Minich Jr. "That was great, I have lost some like that, but it feels great to win one coming to the checkers."

Minich Jr. steadily worked his way from his 12th place starting position to challenge leader Griffin over the last portions of the event. Minich Jr. managed to get around Griffin with 6 laps to go, but a caution came out before Minich Jr. could finish the lap giving the lead back to Griffin. Griffin had led since lap four after passing early leader Keith Sterkowitz. Griffin won in a similar situation earlier in the season at Angola Motor Speedway when he passed Greg Parr on the last lap to win the Stan Perry Memorial Outlaw Late Model event.

Sterkowitz held on to finish in fourth. Jason Atkinson finished in fifth place. Hanna was the Allstar Performance Fast Qualifier besting the 22 cars that were on hand for the May 1st make-up event. Minich Jr. was the AFCO and Racing Electronics Hardcharger Award winners for gaining 11 positions. Griffin was the Turn One High Performance Steering Lap Leader award winner for leading the most laps in the event.

The next Howe CRA Late Model Sportsman Series event will be on July 18th at Winchester Speedway. More information on the Howe CRA Late Model Sportsman Series is available at www.craracing.net.
