Poore Wins First CRA Street Stock Race

Anderson, IN (June 19, 2010) – 29 drivers started the CRA Street Stocks’ EDCO Welding and Hydraulics 300 at Anderson Speedway Saturday night, with the temperature over 80 degrees and the humidity giving the air a much warmer feel. 300 laps later Josh Poore climbed out of his car the victor, drenched with sweat and very thirsty, but ecstatic to win in front of his home crowd. Poore started fourth, and chased down Brett Hudson on the 186th lap to take the lead and go on to win despite pressure from Rich Boyer most of the way. Boyer finished second, Jeff Lane third, Bret Miles, Jr. driving in relief for Jeff Perry finished fourth and Steve Christman fifth.

"He (Brent Hudson) was really good the first half the race." Poore stated.  "He was not as good the second half and I was able to catch him and get by."

Scott Neal set a new track record for the CRA Street Stocks with a time of 13.801 seconds to earn the All Star Performance Fast Qualifier Award. Starting on the pole Neal jumped out to the early lead before tangling with a slower car cut a tire forcing him to the pits. Neal fell a few laps down while Hudson took over the lead. Neal battled back to the lead lap before his transmission linkage became jammed and he was forced to take a very lengthy pit stop to fix it.

Hudson held the lead at the half way mark after fighting off challenges by Poore and Christman. Following the break at the half way mark, Hudson took off again, but this time Poore was able to get past him on the 186th lap, pulling Boyer and Christman with him. While Boyer and Poore pulled out to a healthy lead Brian Hopkins, Lane and Hudson battled for fourth.

As the laps wore down Hudson developed a problem with the rear end that caused a great deal of smoke, along with the Rick Erwin machine and the Shawn Smith car. When there was a caution for debris on the 240th lap all three machines were brought in and checked by the tech crew. Hudson was allowed to continue as he was not leaking fluid, Smith had a leak that had to be repaired, and Erwin’s machine caught fire that was immediately extinguished by Anderson’s staff so no one was injured, but Erwin was out of the race. On the 266th lap Hudson was forced out due to the rear end problems.

As the race continued, Poore and Boyer once again seemed to have the rest of the field covered, as Boyer tried high and low to get past Poore and the others fought for third place. Poore then distanced himself from Boyer as the laps wound down. It seemed the race was going to end like this when Hopkins lost a tire with 10 to go, bunching up the field for a restart with five to go. But Poore could not be caught as he ran out ahead and the others fought for the second through fifth positions.

The heat caused some drivers issues during the race, with Jeff Perry being unable to continue after half way due to exhaustion, so Bret Miles, Jr. took over as his machine had suffered mechanical issues and he was forced out early.

Lane over came an early pit stop that caused him to fall a lap down when his car would not handle because his sway bar was loose. He battled back to the lead lap and finished third. Beau Mitchell qualified in the top five but was forced to start at the tail after failing post-qualifying tech. He had moved up to sixth when his shifter broke forcing him out. Jason Thompson had a good run going when he got into the wall in the fourth turn ending his night.

The McGunegill Engine Performance Award went to Poore along with Crumrine Buckle Manufacturing Award. Boyer earned the Taylor Wires Award and the TCI Automotive Hardcharger Award went to Randy Hoppes as he moved up 14 places from 21st to seventh.

The next CRA Street Stock event will be July 11 at Plymouth Speedway along with the CRA Super Series and Vore’s Welding and Steel CRA FWD Compacts. The Howe CRA Late Model Sportsman will be at Anderson Speedway on June 26 for the Anderson 75. For more information see www.craracing.net.
