the
restart Hantz held off Dietsch to win. Dietsch was second, Kugler
third, CRA Super Series points leader Johnny VanDoorn finished fourth
and Jack Landis fifth.
"Tonight was the toughest race I have ran all year."
Hantz stated. "I need to thank my car owner, Dick Poe for all he has
done to make this possible. And tonight we had Klotz (Synthetic
Lubricants) in the engine, it works."
Hantz set fast time in qualifying to win the EDCO
Welding Fast Qualifier Award, with a time of 17.274 seconds over .134
seconds faster than second fast qualifier Landis. By setting fast time
and winning the race Hantz also took the Competition Race Fuels Clean
Sweep Award, which had grown to $400 after not having a winner since
Hantz won it May 17th. He then drew a six putting Kenny
Tweedy on the pole.
JR Roahrig ran out from the green flag to take the
lead from his outside front row starting position and held on to it
from the pole position. Meanwhile, Kugler was moving on the outside,
passing cars several each lap. He took the lead from Roahrig going
around on the outside on the 34th lap. Kugler held that
lead until Hantz took over on the 48th lap. By leading at
halfway, Hantz also received the Kingen Interstate Express Halfway
Leader Award. "I think we had something for Scott there at the end if
we had not had that last yellow." Dietsch said.
Racing for the Top 5 positions was intense between
Dietsch, Kugler, VanDoorn, Landis, Roahrig and Al Cook, Jr. Each
moving up and back behind Hantz. Landis slid sideways with-in the last
few laps after contact and made a tremendous save to finish fifth.
Kugler and Cook won the Hoosier Racing Tire
Performance Awards, with Cook also winning the Lane Automotive/ISKY
Racing Cams Hard Charger Award for moving up to sixth from his 16th
starting position. For his move to take the lead Hantz won the ARP
Bodies Cool Move of the Race Award.
