Hantz Likes Playing Nashville Guitars

Nashville, TN (August 24, 2008) – Three time CRA Super Series Champion Scott Hantz gets to enjoy the sound of a Nashville Guitar Trophy for the second time after winning Sunday’s CRA Budweiser 150 at the Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, Tennessee. Hantz got his first Guitar Trophy in the same event last year, and is now the first two-time CRA Super Series winner at Nashville.

Scott Hantz started on the outside of the front row took the early lead only to have Josh Vadnais storm by on the 15th lap.  Hantz was not to be denied, as he stayed close in second then drove by Vadnais on lap 94 to take a lead, which he would not give up.  John Bolen was coming on strong as the race wound down, but could not catch Hantz as he won his second CRA Super Series race in a row and a series leading three victories so far in 2009. Bolen finished second, Boris Jurkovic third, and Johnny Van Doorn came from 23rd to finish fourth, Johanna Long was fifth.

"Tire management, we knew it was going to be a long race and we saved our tires until it got to about 50 to go and took off."  Hantz said. "I would find a good groove and then the sun came out and with the rubber on the track that groove got slick so I had to find a new one that worked."

The event attracted a strong field of 40 cars with drivers coming from 14 different states to compete in Sunday’s event. NASCAR star Kyle Busch came from his win at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday night to compete in Sunday’s event at Nashville. Busch won the 25 lap last chance race to get the 21st starting position. Busch got involved in an early incident and had to pit for repairs to his car. Busch then came through the field to get into the top five before his car started to fade. Busch eventually fell out of the race on lap 128 with handling issues.

Chase Elliott, the 13 year old son of NASCAR legend Bill Elliott, finished 8th in his first ever race with the CRA Super Series and first ever race at Nashville after starting 14th. Bolen took the EDCO Welding Fast Qualifier Award after Johnny VanDoorn’s qualifying time was disallowed due to loose weight in the driver compartment of the car. "We were hurrying and put the five pound weight in there loose in a pinch to get the weight right."  VanDoorn commented.  "We regret doing it that way, and should have taken the time to secure the weight. It is a safety issue for myself and others."  Of the 37 cars that took times, the top 23 cars were separated by only a half second.

VanDoorn and Schoenfeld took the Hoosier Racing Tire Performance Awards, with Schoenfeld also receiving the Lane Automotive/ISKY Racing Cams Hard Charger Award for moving up from his 32nd staring place to sixth. Vadnais won the RaceTrailerSales.com Halfway Leader Award as the leader on the 75th lap.

Busch took the VDL Fuel Systems Hot Race of the Award for the fastest lap of the race. Tyler Roahrig won the K&N Filters Rookie of the Race Award and the VDL Fuel Systems Top Rookie Award. This is the fourth Rookie of the Race Award Roahrig has won and his third in a row. The ARP Bodies Cool of the Race Award went to VanDoorn for the moves he made getting into the Top 5.

The next event for the CRA Super Series is the McGunegill Engine Performance 100 Presented by Crown RV & Boat Cleaner at the World Street Stock Car Festival at Winchester Speedway over Labor Day Weekend, September 6-7. The World Stock Car Festival will also feature the Howe CRA Late Model Sportsman, CRA Street Stocks, Vore’s Welding and Steel CRA FWD Compacts, Thundercars and USA Modifieds, camping at the track and a band on Sunday night.
