Toledo

Toledo, OH (August 14, 2009)
- Scott Hantz has found the fast way around Toledo Speedway, with
three wins in Outlaw Late Models in 2009 and now the CRA Super Series
as he took the Allen Chevrolet/Cadillac 100 presented by Spray Power
RV & Boat Cleaner Friday night. Early race leader JR Roahrig
finished
second,
with Boris Jurkovic charging through the field to take third, Rick
Turner recovering from an accident in practice to finish fourth and
Nick Diano fifth in his first ever late model race.
"I just have to thank Dick Poe and his Jackie, we
want to win everything we can for him." Hantz
commented. "I really love Toledo, it used to be the hardest
track for me, it took a while to learn how to drive it, but now I love
it."
Johnny VanDoorn set fast time to win the EDCO
Welding Fast Qualifier Award then drew a 6 to put Jeff Lane on the
pole, with JR Roahrig on the outside of the front row. Roahrig jumped
out to a quick lead, Kyle Busch came up quick from his fifth starting
position to get into second place on the 11th lap with
Hantz close behind. Hantz then drove past Busch
one lap later to claim second place. Busch had arrived at the track
after his duties at Michigan International Speedway for the Nationwide
& Sprint Cup, qualified second, on the 15th lap he broke a
shock mount and rubbed the outside wall hard bringing out the first
caution.
When racing resumed Hantz grabbed the lead on the 22nd
lap and never looked back. The racing for second through fifth was
tight all night long, with cars at times running into the turns three
wide. For his brilliant move past Busch, Hantz received the ARP Bodies
Cool Move of the Race Award.
Johnny VanDoorn entered the Allen Chevrolet/Cadillac
100 leading the season point race by 47 points. After cutting his
power steering hose while diving low and bottoming out and with
Hantz’s win his lead has been cut to less than 30 points. This is the
first CRA race in 2009 VanDoorn has not completed every lap and
finished in the Top 10. Aaron Pierce started second in the point
chase, but was racing with a broken collarbone he suffered in a minor
motorcycle accident last week.
JR Roahrig held onto second with Jurkovic moving up
from 13th starting position to finish third after a bold
move on a restart at lap 91 moving him up from fifth to third in the
running order. Jurkovic earned the Lane Automotive/ISKY Racing Cams
Hard Charger Award and a Hoosier Racing Tire Performance Award. Kenny
Tweedy took the other Hoosier Racing Tire Performance Award.
Tony Dager received the Leaf Raceway Hard Luck Award
as he lost his engine during practice. Rick Brown picked up the Safety
Solutions Tough Luck Award following his hard accident in practice.
When Brown bounced off the wall
he hit Rick Turner who was going low
to avoid the sliding car. His hit damaged the right side door on
Turner’s car. "It tore up the body and door bars on the car, we had
just gotten some door bars delivered at the track from Port City and
the guys took the door up into the trailer and walked it out
straight." Crew Chief John Turner commented." "It was awesome what the
crew did to fix the car." Rick Turner stated. "Those five guys don’t
get paid, and as hard as they worked you would have thought they were
getting paid a $1000 each. They are awesome guys and great friends, I
cannot say enough about the job they did."
Tyler Roahrig took the K & N Filters Rookie of the
Race Award and VDL Fuel Systems Top Rookie Award with his sixth place
finish. The VDL Hot Lap of the Race Award went to Scott Hantz for the
fastest lap during the race. The Competition Race Fuels Clean Sweep
Award was not awarded as the Fast Qualifier did not win the race and
will roll over to $300 for the Budweiser All-American 150 at the
Fairgrounds Speedway at Nashville on August 23.
The next event for the CRA Super Series will be the
Budweiser All-American 150 on Sunday, August 23 featuring Kyle Busch
attempting to bounce back and win against the CRA Super Series stars
at the historic Fairgrounds Speedway at Nashville in a make up race
from the rain out last spring. More information for the Speedway is
