Ft. Wayne, IN (May 25, 2009) – The Howe CRA Late Model Sportsman Series, CRA Street Stocks, Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts and Mini-stocks charged onto Baer Field Speedway for the CRA Memorial Day 200. They provided the crowd with tight racing, many lead changes, and fender to fender action with over 80 cars at the track for four features.

Steve Minich, Jr. and Bobby Blount fought for the lead for the last 10 laps of the 50 lap Howe CRA Late Model Sportsman Series feature at Baer Field Speedway with Minich coming out on top to win his first race of the 2009 season and third win in his CRA career.  During the middle of the race Blount worked lap after lap for over 15 laps to get past Charlie Hanna who was working the outside lane of the track to keep just ahead of Blount.

Adam Hudson started on the outside of the front row with Hanna on the pole. Hudson took the early lead with Hanna running by to the take the lead on the third lap, he held the lead until Billy Hutson drove past on lap 17. Hutson ran out to the lead, but during a caution his car was found to be leaking rear end grease and was sent to the pits for repair. Blount inherited the lead but could only hold it one lap before Hanna reclaimed it.

Hanna's car seemed to do best on longer runs, but due to several cautions Blount was able to get beside Hanna several times, and finally get past him on the 42nd lap, bringing several cars with him.  He and Minich then battled for several laps with Minich getting around Blount on the 46th lap, never getting far away, but stayed ahead, just far enough away to earn a hard fought win. Blount finished second, Tommy Cook third, Keith Sterkowitz fourth and Phil Bozell fifth.

Winston Wood started on the inside of the second row of the CRA Street Stock 50 lap race at Baer Field and hung on to win a close race over Jason Thompson. Wood chased Danny Acrey II from the first lap until he was able to drive past Acrey on the 22 lap.  He also pulled a few cars with him, cars that chased him until the end.  Thompson could get beside Wood, but could not get around him with Wood hanging on just ahead of Thompson to the end. Joe Beaver finished third, Bret Miles, Jr. fourth, and Tom Little fifth.

"Thank you Dad!" Exclaimed an excited Wood in Victory Lane. "You (CRA fans) are the best fans for street stocks in the nation!"

Bill Charles was in fourth place and watching a battle for the lead take place in front of him in the Vore’s Welding and Steel FWD Compacts 50 lap feature.  Steve Christman and Jeff Williams traded the lead (and paint) for several laps, with six lead changes in six laps, when they came together and spun. Both cars went to the rear on the 46th lap, putting Nathan Thomas in the lead, Charles wasted no time getting to the lead and staying there the final three laps. Steve Christman came from the rear on the restart to finish second, Tim Dilg third, Blaine Miller fourth and Nathan Thomas fifth.

Williams won the first Vore's Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts heat race with Charles close behind. Veteran racer Christman won the second heat with Steven Deroin second. Greg De St. Jean, who just got a transmission back in his car this week after problems at Winchester, won the final heat with Blain Miller second.
