Lane, Lambert, Erwin and Miller Get Circle Track Classic Wins

Clermont, IN (September 20, 2008) – Two first time CRA winners, a pass very late in the race for the win and a veteran making his car extremely wide on the last few laps made the Inaugural Circle Track Classic at O’Reilly Raceway Park on Saturday night an unforgettable event. Starting the night off was 15-year-old Mark Lambert racing in his first Howe CRA Sportsman Series event using lap traffic to get past Charlie Hanna to get his first ever CRA win. Rick Erwin had problems when he qualified, and then came from the 27th position to the front quickly and won his first ever CRA Street Stock race. Jeff Lane then made his car seem at least 20 feet wide blocking Scott Hantz and holding him off to win his second CRA Super Series race of the year. To cap the night Tom Miller chased Joe Beaver in the Super Truck Challenge for much of the race bounced off the wall late and still managed to barely pass Beaver to win the Super Truck Challenge to end an exciting evening of racing.

Jeff Lane Celebrates In Victory Lane

Lane was fast during practice, third fastest in qualifying and had a large lead at one point in the Circle Track Classic 100 presented by U.S. Army, and barely won as Hantz came on strong in the closing laps of the race to move up to second after working to pass K&N Filters Rookie of the Year contender Zach Taylor and set his sights on Lane. Hantz caught Lane with less than 10 laps to go, but Lane blocked each Hantz pass attempt including a move on the last lap coming out of the fourth turn giving Lane his 12th career CRA Super Series win.

"I had to make it wide there at the end, earlier we had the car to beat, but after the last yellow there for oil, it was going away.  Scott (Hantz) had the better car there at the end, but I still managed to win."  Lane said.

Hantz finished second maintaining his lead for the series season championship over second place contender Rick Turner who was the Appleton Rack & Pinion Fast Qualifier for a series leading fourth time in 2008 and finished fourth for his seventh Top Five finish of the year in what has been his best year yet with the CRA Super Series.

Turner’s teammate Taylor finished third to gain some points on Aaron Pierce, who finished ninth, in a very tight race for rookie of the year. Taylor earned the K&N Rookie of the Race Award. Pierce received a Hoosier Racing Tire Performance Award and the ISKY Racing Cams/Lane Automotive Hardcharger Award.

Sean Matthuis scored his first ever-top five finish with the CRA Super Series finishing in fifth place. This earned him the ARP Bodies Cool Move of the Race Award and he also received the Ringers Gloves Award.

Lane received a Hoosier Racing Tire Performance Award, the Holley Performance Award, the Fatheadz.com Winners Award and the RaceTrailerSales.com Halfway Leader Award. Early race leader Terry Fisher, Jr. turned the fastest lap during the race to win the VDL Fuel Systems Hot Lap of the Race.

Mark Lambert is only 15 but he has 10 years of racing experience starting with go-karts and moving to Sportsman style cars this year. Lambert battled with Charlie Hanna throughout the race, and came out the winner in his first ever Howe CRA Sportsman Series event.

"That was awesome, this is my first race with the CRA guys and we did not expect to compete up front and were just hoping to be able to get a top 5 or a top 10 finish.  To win against these guys is just awesome."  Lambert stated after the race.

"I just got caught up in some traffic while leading as the guys ahead of me were racing to stay on the lead lap and for position, and he got me." Hanna said. "Can’t blame them, they were just racing."

Eric Barcus started on the front row and took the early lead before Hanna got around to lead for 30 laps of the 50 lap race before getting caught in traffic. After Lambert got past him Hanna stayed close and after a red flag on lap 39 for a horrific looking accident with Ryan Schnabel’s car ending up on its side trapped against the wall by Pete Farmer’s truck, Hanna got past Lambert again to take the lead. Lambert did not let this hold as he made a bold move to pass Hanna and take the lead for good on the 43rd lap. Justin Alsip finished in third, series point’s leader Tony Dager in fourth and 15 year old Damon Ecoff in fifth.

Rick Erwin had trouble on his qualifying attempt and was mired back at the back of the 33-car field starting in 27th place. Between qualifying and the race Erwin and his crew had made a few adjustments to the car including using the track welder and it showed as he charged through the field to find himself running for the lead before the 20th lap and taking the lead on the 23rd lap. From there he never looked back as Jeff Perry who led the first 22 laps could not catch Erwin, but stayed with him through the race.

"We had to fix this car this week, we had a hard crash at Anderson and had to clip it, we started Monday, and just got it here.  We were ok in practice, pretty fast, and then we adjusted it before the race and made it unbeatable tonight."  Erwin commented.  "It was a fun race!"

"That was some hard a** racing.  I really enjoyed racing with the other guys, the Anderson guys seemed to race cleaner looking at their trucks after the race."   Miller stated.  "The fans must have loved it, everybody started fast and had to finish fast."
