Campbell Takes Boyne at Berlin 125
Marne, MI (October 18, 2008) -
A familiar name was in the winner's circle at The Boyne
at Berlin 125 at Berlin Raceway Saturday night, but it was not Fred
Campbell a three time CRA Super Series winner at Berlin Raceway. This
time it was his son Brian Campbell a very popular winner in front of
his home track fans collecting the $10,000
first
place payoff for owner Mike Blackmer. Campbell ran out in front of the
crowd of cars that he navigated carefully to take the lead on the 95th
lap over Johnny VanDoorn and raced on to win. Scott Hantz
finished second, Robbie Pyle third, Chris Anthony fourth and Andy
Ponstein fifth.
"This was kind of a last hurrah for this car, as
Boyne Machine Racing is moving on." Campbell commented.
"The car was great, I want to say thanks to Boyne Machine Racing for
everything."
With the win Campbell sends the Boyne Machine Racing
Team off with a bang, ending a long run as a very successful team. The
Boyne Machine Racing Team is closing down with an auction November 8th
as team owner Mike Blackmer moves on to managing and promoting the
Berlin Raceway next season. Local businessman Mike Bursley recently
purchased the entire template racecar team owned by Blackmer and
driven by Brian Campbell in the ASA Model Series and CRA Super Series
with plans to keep Campbell racing again in 2009.
The race, a makeup of the Boyne at Berlin that was
scheduled for September 13 and postponed due to rain, saw four
different leaders with Scott Hantz taking the lead from the outside of
the front row on the first lap. Pyle followed Hantz up and took the
lead on the third lap. He then ran out to a large lead, but Campbell
started to reel him in moving smoothly through the traffic and gained
on Pyle lap by lap. Van Doorn also worked his way through traffic and
came from ½ lap down to catch the leaders while they attempted pass
cars not yet a lap down.
After catching the Chris Koslek car they were
jockeying for position with Koslek staying on the low side of track
Van Doorn went low and slid up in front of Pyle and Campbell to take
the lead on the 80th lap. He started to run out ahead and
then slowed slightly and allowing Campbell to catch and pass him.
VanDoorn fell back to 6th place suffering from a broken
right front wheel that slowed him causing him to fall back.
Chris Anthony and Brent Sontag earned Hoosier Racing
Tire Performance Awards. Jordan Dahlke earned the Isky Racing
Cams/Lane Automotive Hard Charger Award. Tom Thomas was the Appleton
Rack & Pinion Fast Qualifier Award winner.
For his move that resulted in taking the lead
VanDoorn received the ARP Bodies Cool Move of the Race Award. Pyle
earned the RaceTrailerSales.com Halfway Leader Award. Zach Taylor
earned the K&N Filters Rookie of the Race and the VDL Fuel Systems
Rookie Award.
Campbell took the Fatheadz.com Winner Award and
Holley Performance Award. Scott Hantz received the VDL Fuel Systems
Hot Lap of the Race Award for turning the fastest lap during the race.
This was the last CRA Super Series point’s race of
2008. The next event for the CRA Super Series is the All American 400
weekend a 200 lap non-points race at the Music City Motorplex in
Nashville, TN on October 31 and November 1. More information on the
CRA Super Series is available at
