Anderson, IN (August 23, 2008) - Katie
Jackson navigated through traffic, and took home the trophy for the
Anderson 75, becoming the first female to win a CRA Street Stock
feature event Saturday night at Anderson Speedway. Jackson
started on the pole, and beat Jason Thompson to the flag on the first
lap. Thompson chased her close for a few laps until Bret Miles,
Sr. took over second place. Miles, Sr. stayed with Jackson but
could not get around, he then dropped out due to rear end problems
handing second
place to a hard charging Rich Boyer. Boyer drew up under Jackson
a few times, but could not make a pass. On a restart with only 10 laps
to go Boyer missed a shift and was passed by Joe Beaver. Beaver
finished right on Jackson's tail. Bret Miles, Jr. was third,
Jeff Perry fourth and Boyer recovered to finish fifth.
"I was winning scared out there, I knew the fast
guys were behind me and I just tried to drive a good line. That
track got slick, real slick and just stayed down low, and let anybody
who could pass me high take it." Jackson stated. "It is a dream
to finish one - two with my Dad (Joe Beaver), and to race against
these guys who are very good, like Dad, Boyer, Miles, I am just happy
to win."
With the 2-3 finish the tight race for the CRA
Street Stock season championship points race stayed very tight. Miles,
Jr. was the fast qualifier and gained four points over Beaver who
qualified third. By finishing second to Miles third Beaver made up
three of those points, leaving Miles with a three point lead with only
four CRA Street Stock races to go, starting with the World Stock Car
Festival at Winchester Speedway in the MAX 40 on Monday, September 1.
Beaver has one victory at the historic half mile this season, while
Miles finished a close second at Winchester the last
time the CRA Street Stocks visited.
The win was not only Jackson’s first CRA Street
Stock victory; it was also her first Top 10. She is not only the first
female feature winner with the series, she becomes the first female
feature winner in any CRA division. The victory earned her the Pro
Shocks Award, and a Hawk Performance Award. Beaver won the Taylor
Cables set of wires for finishing second.
The Shively High Performance Hard Luck Award went to
Bret Miles, Sr., while the TCI Hard Charger Award went to Eric
McGlothin for moving up from his 26th starting position to
finish 14th. Jason Thompson took the Basset Racing Wheels
Award.
Rich Boyer and Winston Wood also received Hawk
Performance Awards. Miles, Jr. earned the Stewart Warner Award and a
Quartermaster Award. Joshua Burton and Carl Muffley also earned a
Quartermaster Award. Muffley took the Aero Race Wheels Award.
The next event for the CRA Street Stocks will be at
the MAX 40. This event is one of the nine feature races at Winchester
Speedway during the Annual Labor Day Weekend World Stock Car Festival
on August 31 and September 1. For more information about the World
