Angola, IN (July 26, 2008) - Williamsport, IN
driver Larry Matillo has won a number of dirt track races, and was a
sportsman car track champion on dirt, but Saturday night at Angola
Motor Speedway Matillo was able to do something he had never done
before, a burnout after a win. Matillo started on the outside of the
front row and led every lap of the Croxton & Roe Insurance 75 for his
first CRA Street Stock Series victory.
"I have to thank my car owner and sponsors for
getting me here this week." Matillo stated. "I got out
front and just drove a good line, although there at the end I tried to
go a little lower
because
I saw them coming and I was losing a little too much in the turns, but
it worked out."
The battle for second was intense with several
different drivers holding on to that spot for at least a few laps
before being passed in very spirited racing. Jason Thompson won the
battle for second place, with Jacob Owens third, Bret Miles, Jr.
fourth and Danny Acrey II fifth.
Matillo was just happy to be on the track at the
end. "We had to set the toe-in after we unloaded it before practice.
We worked all week to get it back to together after the wreck last
week." Matillo said. "We were not good in practice or qualifying, but
after that we switched the rear springs and that made a big
difference."
The Season Points race tightened up with Miles,
entering the day only 23 points behind Joe Beaver. Beaver had a tire
go flat in the early going and lost three laps in the pits and
finished the day in 12th. After the days events Miles
will
be within 10 points of the lead.
Carl Muffley was driving a car borrowed from Cindy
Stremme after he broke his practicing on Friday night. Cindy is NASCAR
Nationwide Series regular David Stremme’s Mother. While she was
watching David race at Indianapolis, his father Lou loaned the car to
Muffley, not telling Cindy. Muffley moved up 11 positions to win the
TCI Automotive Hard Charger Award.
Katie Jackson received the Shively HP Hard Luck
Award with Larry Matillo taking the Pro Shocks Award and Jason
Thompson won the Taylor Cable Award.
The next event for the CRA Street Stocks is
Saturday, August 9th at Anderson Speedway for the Anderson
100 a part of the Anderson 400 night, racing with the CRA Super
Series. For more information see
