Jurkovic Has Winning Strategy at Plymouth Speedway

Plymouth, IN (July 14, 2008) – Joilet, Chicago native Boris Jurkovic used some great strategy to get the win in the Mid-Summer Championship 200 Presented By Centennial Wireless on Sunday night at Plymouth Speedway. Jurkovic decided not to take any tires at the lap 100 halfway break, which put him in the lead to start the second 100 lap segment, he took full advantage and held off K & N Filters Rookie competitor Aaron Pierce in front of a great crowd to lead the final 100 laps in getting his second CRA Super Series victory of the season, and his fourth overall.

"We didn't change anything at the break other than taking 2 pounds of air out of the right front tire," remarked Jurkovic. "The car was really good tonight, and we just cruised for a while out there, the last 20 laps it started to get a little loose, but we stayed in front. I’ve been sick the last couple of days and didn’t know if I could last 200 laps, but it sure makes you feel better when your in the lead!"

JR Roahrig held the lead at the halfway break but decided to change two tires, which put him behind the cars that didn’t change tires for the restart of the second 100 lap segment. Roahrig would end up finishing eighth. Roahrig led from lap 30 until lap 100. Local competitor Michael Thayer, making his first ever series start, grabbed the early lead, but had his car quit running under caution, handing the lead to veteran Tim Curry. Curry, making his first start of the season with the series, lead for two laps, but his car also quit running under caution with an ignition problem giving the lead to Roahrig.

Rookie Aaron Pierce also elected not to change tires during the break, which put him in second for the start of the second segment, Pierce challenged Jurkovic several times over the last 100 laps but had to settle for second, his best ever finish with the series. Eddie Hoffman also elected not to change tires and finished in third. Jack Landis finished in fourth, he was the highest finishing driver who changed tires at the halfway break. NASCAR competitor David Stremme came from his 21st starting position after winning the second Last Chance race to get into the field to finish in fifth place. He and Landis put on a great show passing cars coming up through the field then battling side by side for several laps for the fourth position before Landis finally got by late in the event, but it was too late to challenge the top three finishers.

Jurkovic also had some good luck in getting the victory. Pierce and Jurkovic made contact coming out of turn four causing Jurkovic to spin just after the caution flag had waved for a spun car in turn two. Since the incident between the two came after the caution was out, Jurkovic got his spot back and Pierce was not penalized for the contact.

Terry Fisher Jr. came from his 23rd starting position to finish in sixth place. Rookie Zach Taylor shook off his recent string of bad luck to finish in seventh. Steve Campbell finished in ninth making his first start with the series in several years. Cory Pressler finished in tenth in his first ever start with the series coming from his 25th place starting position. Donny Klotz came from his 30th starting position to finish 11th earning him the ISKY Racing Cams/Lane Automotive Hardcharger Award.

36 cars signed in for the event with 33 taking qualifying times. The track was repaved last season, this was the first series event at the track on the new pavement, all 33 cars broke the series previous track record in qualifying. Aaron Pierce won his first ever Appleton Rack & Pinion Fast Qualifier Award. Pierce was also the K & N Filters Rookie Of The Race, his fourth straight rookie of the race award this season.

David Stremme and Terry Fisher Jr. both earned Hoosier Racing Tire Performance Awards. JR Roahrig got the RaceTrailerSales.com Halfway Leader Award. Eddie Hoffman earned a $200 bonus from Shepherd Chevrolet for being the top crate motor finisher. For his race winning strategy, Boris Jurkovic received the ARP Bodies Cool Move Of The Race Award, he also earned the Holley Performance Award.

The next CRA Super Series event will be this Sunday, the All American 150 at the Music City Motorplex at the Fairgrounds in Nashville, Tennessee. More information is available at www.craracing.net.
