Dietsch, Timmerman, Hanna and De St. Jean Get Wins At Winchester Speedway

Winchester, IN (August 13, 2007) – Jason Dietsch, Mark Timmerman, Charlie Hanna and Greg De St. Jean all picked up feature wins on the famous High Banks of Winchester Speedway this past Sunday. It was a hot afternoon of racing under the sun with some hot racing on the track as well.

The Bollhoff Rivnut SUPERPRO Series paid its first ever visit to historic Winchester Speedway and Edgeton, Ohio’s Jason Dietsch picked up the first SUPERPRO win of his career. Young Derek Bischak and Al Cook, Jr. led the field to the green of the "Aluminum Racing Products 50" with Cook Jr. jumping into the lead. Michael Gaier moved quickly from his sixth starting position to grab the point on lap four. Fast qualifier Rick Turner, Dietsch and Tommy Cook all began to put the heat on the leader. Gaier made contact with the turn four wall on lap 15 and made a miraculous save down the front stretch to maintain the lead. Dietsch moved to second on lap 16 and into the lead two laps later.

Turner, a regular performer with the CRA Super Series, made hard contact with the wall on lap 22, bringing out the first caution of the event. Cook made the save of the century as he lost it out of turn four trying to pass Dietsch and somehow missed the water barrels that protect the inside wall. At the halfway point, it was Dietsch followed by Rob Buckley, Gaier, Al Cook and Bischak. Tommy Cook moved from the tail to fourth by lap 34. It was all Dietsch to the checkers followed by Buckley, Gaier, Tommy Cook, and Bischak with his best SUPERPRO finish to date.

The summer heat was scorching and so was the racing action for the American Modified Series on Sunday. The action started with qualifications for the DeGraff OH based group. Kettering OH driver Mike Carroll was fastest qualifier with a 16.760 lap. The qualification heat races went to Dave Stacy and Rodney Scott. The 50 lap feature saw Stacy and Scott battle for the lead at the drop of the green. It was soon apparent that Mike Stacy was the fastest car on the track, as he made his way to the front from his third place starting position. Scott was out front, when Mike Stacy caught up with him after passing his brother Dave. Mike and Scott set up a two car battle for the lead until they made contact in turn one resulting in both spinning.

AMS officials put both to the rear of the field, putting third place running Mark Timmerman out front. Bud Perry the 2005 AMS champ, soon caught Timmerman setting up a two-car battle for the lead. The duo put on a thrilling display, as Perry tried every trick he knew to get by the much younger Timmerman. Perry just came up short, as Timmerman scored his first AMS win in his Quality Steel Fabrication modified.

" I have many memories of this place, watching my grandfather Marvin Smith win here in ARCA cars, and now I guess I have a favorite memory of my own" stated Timmerman in a post race interview.

Mike Stacy was the story of the day however as he raced his way back up to third after his trip to the rear of the field. Stacy was on a rail, as he did it without the aid of a yellow. Dave Stacy held on for fourth, with Jason Dietsch fifth.

Charlie Hanna got his first ever Howe CRA Sportsman feature victory on Sunday. Hanna worked his way through the pack to second behind Rick Rinehart who had taken the lead from Jeff Ellis on lap 24. Hanna patiently worked on Rinehart waiting for the right moment to make his challenge for the lead. Rinehart started to slip a little in the turns, this opened the door for Hanna who worked his way inside of Rinehart, the two raced side by side for a lap before Hanna was able to make the pass and take the lead on lap 34. Hanna would then cruise to a second and half victory over Rinehart.

"It feels better to run up front.  I bounced off the wall on about the fifth or sixth lap and thought I did not have a chance.  Then the others ahead of me starting bouncing around and I caught back up and got up there for the win," remarked a very happy Hanna in Victory Lane.

Hanna’s streak of good runs after blowing two motors early in the season started four races ago when he finished in third. He followed that up with two-second place finishes and finally got his first series win for car owner Tom Fisel. Rinehart got second and is still second in points to point’s leader Billy Hutson who finished in third on Sunday. Rick Tackman Jr. finished in fourth with early leader Jeff Ellis in fifth. Rinehart was the fast qualifier on Sunday while Hutson and Gregory picked up heat race victories.

Greg De St. Jean picked up his second straight victory in the Vore’s Welding & Steel CRA FWD Compacts 20 lap feature on Sunday. Brian Redmond finished first on the track but was disqualified after failing post race inspection giving De St. Jean the victory. Third place finisher Todd Kirk was also disqualified moving Bill Leisure to second with Randy Walton in third, Bobby Sanders in fourth and AJ Ridner in fifth. De St. Jean and Redman got heat race victories.
