Bobby
Parsley Uses High Groove to Win the Sizzle Marine 125
Columbus, OH (June 3, 2006)
– Bobby Parsley profited from an early "high groove only" practice
session at Columbus Motor Speedway on Saturday by learning the quick
way around the high side, a lesson he used throughout the Sizzle
Marine 125 CRA Super Series presented by Spray Power event during the
4th Annual Buckeye Bash at Columbus Motor Speedway. Parsley
led seven drivers who broke the track record in Appleton Rack & Pinion
Qualifying, started sixth and chased down the leader within 17 laps.
The next forty laps Parsley and leader Donnie Hill raced side by side
for 10 laps at a time, with Parsley on the outside, Hill narrowly
keeping the lead each lap. Just after taking the crossed flags for
half way Parsley drove in deep on the outside in the third turn and
beat Hill to the line to take the lead. A lead he never gave up.
"I drove in hard on him that lap, he tried to
squeeze me up, but I had too much of a run on him and got around him
then." Parsley stated. "I was just lucky (2 time ASA Champion and
Columbus native Gary) St. Amant had to start so far back, because he
is really good here."
Scott Hantz continued his streak of second place
finishes (his third in a row). "I couldn’t have caught him if we had
500 laps out there tonight. The car was a little tight, we could run
with him on the restarts and I was nearly around him once, but he was
too strong tonight." Hantz commented. This string of second place
finishes have righted a season that started poorly for the 2000 CRA
Series Champion Hantz who started this season with a DNF in the first
three races. This run pushed Hantz into the point Championship lead
after 6 races in the 2006 season. (The Top 6 drivers in the point’s
race are less than 50 points apart.)
St. Amant moved from ninth to third crossing the
line just ahead of Hill. "I had a lot of fun out there tonight. St.
Amant said following the race. Chuck Barnes, Jr. finished fifth just
in front of a pack of cars racing for the fifth position. Jeff Lane
finished sixth and Greg Usher seventh.
27 cars started the race before a first lap accident
in the fourth turn ended the night for Columbus legend Tim Ice,
veteran Jeep Pflum and CD-2 rookie candidate Michael Gaier. Gaier
earned the Leaf Race Products Tough Luck Award. Robbie Pyle was also
attempting to race in the event, but his day ended during practice
when a fuel line broke causing a fire under the hood burning all the
wiring in his racecar.
For his pass on the outside for the lead Parsley
earned the Sweet Manufacturing "Sweet Move of the Race" Award. He also
earned The Wax Shop Clean Sweep Award for setting fast time and
winning the race. The Appleton Rack & Pinion Fast Qualifier award and
Fatheadz Sun Glasses Fast Qualifiers also went to Parsley.
Greg Usher earned the ISKY Cams/Lane Automotive Hard
Charger and Racing Electronics Most Improved positions awards after
moving up 8 positions. Usher and St. Amant received the Hoosier Racing
Tire Performance Awards. The CD-2 Rookie Of The Race Award and Cometic
Gasket Top Rookie Award went to Danny Jackson as the highest finishing
Rookie. Donnie Hill earned the Kingen Interstate Express Halfway
leader Award. The Marvel Mystery Oil Mechanic of the Race Award went
to Parsley crew chief Jeff Martin.
The next CRA Super Series event is a non-point race
at Plymouth Speedway on Sunday, June 11. For information about this
