Plymouth, IN (June 12, 2006) –
Mishawaka, Indiana native JR Roahrig ended a long winless streak by
winning the Braun Auto Group 100 CRA Super Series non-points event at
Plymouth Speedway on Sunday night. It was Roahrig’s third overall win
with the CRA Super Series, but his first in almost four years, his
last series win came on August 8th, 2002 at Baer Field
Speedway.
"It’s about time we got back in
victory lane," remarked Roahrig. "It’s been awhile since we’ve been
here, I was beginning to wonder when I would get another win. It’s
great to win one at Plymouth, I’ve raced here a lot, and it’s in my
back yard!"
Roahrig took full advantage of his
outside front row starting position. Pole sitter Jack Landis and
Roahrig took the green flag side by side and stayed that way until the
end of the backstretch when Roahrig used the outside to take the lead
over Landis. Landis chased Roahrig through out the event, mounting
several charges, but was never able to complete the pass. Landis tried
both a high line and a low line, but had to settle for second.
Current Illiana Motor Speedway late
model point’s leader Mike White finished in third, his inverted
starting position, after setting a new track record in winning the
Appleton Rack & Pinion Fast Qualifier Award. White was one of five
drivers that broke the previous record for the CRA Super Series at
Plymouth Speedway. White made some great runs to catch Landis and
challenge for second place several times during the event.
Former Illiana Late Model Champion
John Nutley finished in fourth with current CRA Super Series points
leader Scott Hantz in fifth, the two battled through out the last
portion of the event for the fourth position. The fifth place finish
was the worse for Hantz in the five series events that have been held
at Plymouth Speedway. Hantz had three previous wins and a second place
finish. Jeff Cannon finished in sixth, Nick Baran in seventh, Bret
Sontag in eighth, Chris Weinkauf in ninth with Jack Kalwasinski in
tenth.
Two-time CRA Super Series champion
and hometown hero Brian Ross battled in the top five through out the
early portion of the event, but his night ended on lap 85 after a spin
in turn two resulted in contact and suspension damage to the right
front of his car. Ross teamed up with legendary crew chief and car
owner Bill Rievley for Sunday’s event.
Bret Sontag was the Lane Automotive/ISKY
Racing Cams Hard Charger Award winner coming from 19th to
finish in eighth after making repairs to the racecar after breaking an
axle in qualifying. Tyler Roahrig, son of JR Roahrig, was the Marvel
Mystery Oil Mechanic Of The Race Award Winner. John Nutley was the
winner of the Sweet Manufacturing Sweet Move Of The Race Award for
making some great passes coming from his ninth place starting position
to finish fourth.
The next CRA Super Series event will
be the Wastequip/Galbreath 100 Presented By Fatheadz at Indianapolis
Raceway Park on Saturday, June 17th. More information is
available
here.
White Set New Track record
A dry and and fast Plymouth Speedway saw five
drivers go faster than the Official CRA Super Series record with
Monee, IL's Mike White the fastest of them all at 13.473 seconds.
John Nutley, Jr. was second, JR Rohrig third, Jack Landis fourth, and
in his return to the CRA Super Series 2-time series champion Brian
Ross was fifth.
Qualifying Results
White drew a three for the invert to start on the
inside of the second row. This put Jack Landis on the pole with
JR Rohrig on the outside. Nutley did not fulfill the special
tire purchase rule for this race and was forced to start ninth.
