Winchester, IN (May 8, 2006) – Owensboro,
Kentucky native Bo Mitchell started third for the Max 50, Max
93.5/96.7 CRA Street Stock race on Sunday afternoon at Winchester
Speedway
and
wasted no time in getting to the front. He took the lead on the
seventh lap and stayed there the rest of the race despite several
strong cars working their way up to challenge him. Each challenger’s
car dropped out as the race progressed and Mitchell was able to hold
off a very loose Justin "Bubba" Trinkle to get the win, his second win
in a row at Winchester Speedway with the CRA Street Stocks Series.
"I was real worried about the guys coming up through
the traffic, but one by one they dropped out and I was in the right
place to win." Mitchell commented. "I was tying to save the
tires for the later part of the race, and that worked like I hoped it
would."
Mitchell survived a near catastrophe with nine laps
to go when John Heck’s car developed an oil leak and sprayed oil
around the track. Mitchell spun narrowly missing a lapped car also
spinning, recovered and continued to lead.
The racing through the pack was spirited throughout
the race. Rich Boyer slipped into second briefly, but was forced into
the pits for a flat tire. He returned to the race two laps down and
ran with the leaders pushing them in an attempt to get his laps back.
Fast Qualifier Bret Miles was moving through the
field from his tenth place starting position when he developed engine
problems and retired on lap 28. Joe Beaver worked hard to get to third
and had a chance at more but the caution flags fell at inopportune
time for Beaver and he settled for his third place finish. Beaver has
finished third in all three CRA Street Stock events so far this
season.
After two races without a car being hauled off the
track on a hook, the Max 50 ended that streak. A total of 7 cautions
were call to clean the track after various accidents.
The CRA Street Stocks next race is with the CRA
Super Sunday, May 21 at Baer Field Speedway in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
