Al Cook Jr. Wins
Caution Free CRA Sportsman Inaugural Event At Anderson Speedway
Anderson, IN (April 9, 2006) –
Woodlawn, Indiana’s Al Cook Jr. lead from start to finish in claiming
the victory in the 50 lap CRA Sportsman inaugural event on Sunday
afternoon at Anderson
Speedway, in Anderson, Indiana. Cook, a regular
competitor in the late model division at Baer Field Speedway, led the
entire caution free event, but it was not an easy victory for the
veteran racer.
Cook, who started from the outside
front row, had to fight off the late charge of Keith Sterkowitz, who
charged from his sixth place starting position, to put himself on
Cook’s back bumper over the last 10 laps, while the leaders diced
through heavy lap traffic. The slowed progress of the leaders allowed
Fast Qualifier Zack Hulvey to close on the leaders as the laps wined
down, making it a three-way battle for the win over the last three
laps of the event. Hulvey had worked his way through the field from
his tenth place starting position. Cook held off the pressure of the
younger drivers to claim the victory by 0.364 seconds over Sterkowitz
and by 0.580 seconds over Hulvey.
CRA Super Series regular Terry Fisher
Jr. finished in fourth making some great passes in the late laps after
losing several positions early in the event. Mount Lawn Speedway
competitor Scott Hinshaw finished in fifth, to lead the local
competitors in the event. Anderson, Indiana native Jon Conklin scored
the win in the first CRA Sportsman heat with Cook taking the checkers
in the second heat.
The next CRA Sportsman event will be
at Baer Field Speedway on Sunday, May 21st.
