Winchester, IN (April 23, 2006) – Jeff
Lane started on the pole of the Manning Service 100, and he used that
starting position to propel himself to his first CRA Super Series
presented by Spray Power victory of 2006 in front of a standing room
only crowd at the famed High Banks of Winchester Speedway Sunday
afternoon. Chris Gabehart started in third position behind Lane and he
followed him closely for the entire race looking for a way to around.
Gabehart never trailed by more than three car lengths, but despite
running very strong in the middle part of the race he could not find
a
way around Lane.
"I don’t feel we had a dominate car here
today, after we practiced well everyone said we did, but we qualified
fifth, so we just ran the race we wanted to. I do not like to have to
look back, but the others were there so I had to keep it up to win." A
very happy Lane stated from Victory Lane.
This is Lane’s third win at Winchester
Speedway in less than a year, but his first win here in a CRA Super
Series car. This Speedway about an hour from his home is fast becoming
one of his favorites. During the World Stock Car Festival last
September Lane won in an Outlaw Late Model, he then won the CRA Street
Stock 200 in September and Sunday he won the Manning Service 100.
"I like this track, I have had some rough
times here, so it is about time I get a break." Lane commented with a
smile.
It was a bittersweet victory for him as a long
time friend, and a person he drove many cars for over the years passed
away very early Sunday morning and he found out at the track. "I would
like to dedicate this win to Wayne Chew, he was a really good friend
and we will miss him." Lane mentioned.
Gabehart ran right behind Lane, but for the
last 10 laps he had his hands full holding off a hard charging Brian
Rievley. Rievley, the 1998 CRA Super Series Champion, was racing for
the first time in over two years. He qualified an uncharacteristic 13th
but he was in top form during the race moving up to finish a strong
third, challenging Gabehart for second. Nashville, Tennessee native
Zach Taylor finished in fourth driving for car owner Chet Blanton in
his first ever visit to Winchester Speedway with the help of the
Purdue University Opportunity Motorsports crew. 2005 series rookie of
the year Tommy St. John finished in fifth.
"We were really good in the middle of the
race, and I think I was faster than him (Lane) then, but we used up
the tires staying with him, and could not pass him. By the end my
tires were completely gone and I am just happy to finish second."
Gabehart stated.
Rievley commented on coming back to race.
"This was a one shot deal; I was just helping out Ken (Muller, car
owner) and Eddie (Van Meter). It was great to race, but I am
exhausted. I dug too deep a hole in Qualifying but we just kept
digging and we got up there."

For his run through the field, Rievley
received the Sweet Manufacturing "Sweet Move of the Race Award". He
also was the ISKY Racing Cams/Lane Automotive Hard Charger, the Racing
Electronics Most Improved Positions Award Winner, and a Hoosier Racing
Tire Performance Award winner. Bull Baker won a Hoosier Racing Tire
Performance Award also.
Kenny Tweedy was the Appleton Rack & Pinion
Fast Qualifier, but was unable to win the Wax Shop Clean Sweep Award,
which grows to $400 for the next CRA Super Series event. Third
generation driver Danny Jackson was the CD-2 Rookie Of The Race Award
winner and the Cometic Gasket Top Finishing Rookie. Scott Whitehouse
received the Leaf Products Tough Luck Award when his engine went sour
and ruined what had been a very good run on lap 51. The Marvel Mystery
Oil Mechanic of the Race was Hayden Butler, Crew Chief and car owner
for Jeff Lane. Lane won the Kingen Interstate Express Halfway Leader
Award.
The next CRA Super Series event will be the
CRA Super Sunday event at Baer Field Speedway on Sunday, May 21st
that will also feature racing action from the HOSS Super Sprints, the
CRA Street Stocks and the CRA Sportsman Series.
