Mansfield, OH (September 11, 2005)
– Bobby Parsley started on the pole of the
Mansfield 100 at Mansfield
Motor Speedway, took the lead on the first lap and held on to win his
second CRA Super Series presented by Spray Power event of 2005 Sunday
afternoon. Chuck Barnes, Jr. had the fastest car all day, setting a
new track record in qualifying and after which he drew a three for the
invert to put Parsley on the pole of the event. After working hard to
get around JR Roahrig for 2nd, Barnes finally caught
Parsley as the laps were winding down and tried unsuccessfully many
times to pass him all the way until the end of the race finishing
right on his bumper as they crossed the line.
"This was Chuck’s race to win, but he
did not knock me out, I just kept him behind me, and I need to thank
him for that. He was faster and should probably have passed me, but I
made the car wide and kept him behind me." Stated Parsley.
Parsley won the first CRA Super
Series event this year at Anderson, and with this win becomes only the
second driver to win more than one CRA event in 2005. This win coupled
with a rough day for Jeff Lane propels him to the lead in the Driver
Points race for 2005 and a close second in the Owners Point
Championship. Lane started seventh dropped to the tail after spinning
when bumped while checking up on the 47th lap. Lane then
made his way back up to finish 10th, the first time he has
been out of the Top 5 since June when he finished 12th at
Berlin Raceway.
With close racing throughout the
field, there was bumping and grinding from the beginning to the end.
Yet there were only four yellow flags during the race. "It’s getting
to the end of the year and there is a lot on the line." Commented
Eddie Van Meter after the race. Van Meter finished fourth and on the
strength of that finish moved into second in the Driver’s point chase
only 1 point ahead of Lane with and 12 points behind Parsley with only
three point races left in the 2005 season.
Barnes was the Bicycle Clay Poker
Chips/Menards Fast Qualifier, and won a Hoosier Racing Tire
Performance Award winner. Tom Hernly, Jr. also won a Hoosier Racing
Tire Performance Award winner. Tim Sibila was the ISKY Racing
Cams/Lane Automotive Hard Charger Award and the Racing Electronics
Most Improved Award.
J.R. Roahrig, third place finisher,
won the Sweet Manufacturing Sweet Move of the
Race Award for several
moves during the race in an attempt to pass Barnes and stay ahead of
Van Meter. Parsley was the RaceTrailers.com Halfway leader and his
chief mechanic Jeff Martin won the Marvel Mystery Oil Mechanic of the
Race Award. The Leaf Race Products Tough Luck Award went to Bob Sibila
who lost an engine during practice. Ryan Tedesco, in his first CRA
Event, won the Howe Racing Performance Award.
Eddie Hoffman returned to form and
finished fifth after a couple of weeks out of the Top Five. Hoffman
has been in the Top Ten for all but one event he has attended this
year. His team, TK Racing is currently the Owners Points leader, just
17 points ahead of Parsley, and only 30 points ahead of Lane in fourth
place in a very tight race for the championship.
The next CRA Super Series event is
the Chicago International Trucks 250 in the 40th ANNUAL
NATIONAL SHORT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS, Saturday, September 24 and Sunday,
September 25 at Rockford Speedway in Rockford, IL. For more
