ANDERSON, Ind. (July 17, 2005) –
Patience paid off for CRA Super Series driver Eddie Hoffman during the
39th Anderson 400 Presented By Great Deals Saturday night
at Anderson Speedway.
Hoffman stormed up from the twentieth starting
position to capture his first win in the short track classic at the
world’s fastest quarter-mile oval. Hoffman adds his name to an
impressive list of race winners that includes Mark Martin, Alan Kulwicki, Dick Trickle, Bob Senneker, Junior Hanley and Gary St. Amant.
Hoffman, of Wheaton, Ill., was the last of seven
leaders in the race that ran to its completion despite the constant
threat of rain. Much of the second half of the 400-lap event was held
as occasional raindrops dotted Anderson Speedway. Hoffman was able to
maintain his advantage over the final 147 laps to pick up the sixth
win of his CRA Super Series career. Hoffman became the first repeat
winner in the 11 CRA Super Series Presented By Spray Power events this
season.
"We have got to thank Joe Beaver, he qualified the
car and helped us get it set up. With Joe being here and helping us,
and the car was good today, it wasn’t as good in the spring, but it
was good today. The crew got the pit stops done in 10 -15 seconds and
did great," a happy Hoffman stated in victory lane.
Hoffman was the Isky Racing Cams/Lane Automotive
Hardcharger Award winner, he also earned a Hoosier Racing Tire
Performance Award, and was the Racing Electronics Most Improved Award
winner coming from his twentieth starting position to get the win.
Knightstown’s Jeff Lane was hot on Hoffman’s tail
over the last 100 laps of the race and ended up with a strong
second-place finish. Tom Hernly Jr. of Lansing, Michigan, was third,
one lap down and was awarded the Sweet Manufacturing Sweet Move of the
Race Award for restarting fifth with only 10 laps to
go and powering
around the outside of the third and fourth place running cars to
finish third one lap down. Jay Middleton of Lake City, Fla., finished
fourth and former Anderson 400 winner Bobby Parsley of Shepherdsville,
Ky., finished in fifth, both were one lap down.
Chuck Barnes, Jr. raced in his second CRA Super
Series event of the season and finished sixth one lap down despite
losing his front fenders and nose in a late race accident. Yorktown,
Indiana’s Rick Turner came home seventh after leading the event on two
different occasions. Tommy St. John raced hard to an eighth place
finish, which earned him the Cometic Gasket Top Rookie of the Race
Award. Muncie, Indiana’s Jim Crabtree, Jr. finished ninth, with
Louisville, Kentucky native Robert Ohlman finishing tenth after
starting in twenty second place, which earned him a Hoosier Racing
Tire Performance Award and the Howe Racing Engineering Performance
