Johnny Belott Wins Rain
Shortened A.P. Racing Engines 100 At Toledo Speedway
Toledo, OH (May 29, 2005) -
"It all came down to the last five laps! We raced hard side by side
for the last five laps and probably would have until the end if the
rain had not stopped it when
it
did, he (Eddie Van Meter) raced me clean, he did a great job of not
getting into me and I stayed off of him." Declared first time CRA
Super Series winner Johnny Belott III following a very hotly contested
A.P. Racing Engines 100 Presented By Spray Power at Toledo Speedway
Sunday night.
In a race that was yellow flagged
twice for rain and finally halted after 91 laps when the rain came and
stayed, Belott and Eddie Van Meter raced hard side by side over the
last few laps trading the lead with Belott pulling ahead just before
the yellow flag came out for the win. Belott’s move earned him the
Sweet Manufacturing Sweet Move Of The Race Award. Cometic Gasket
Rookie Of The Race Award winner Boris Jurkovic followed very closely
through out the closing laps. It was the third Cometic Gasket Rookie
Of The Race Award for Jurkovic in five CRA Super Series events in
2005.
"It was good clean racing." Van Meter
stated, "We both stayed clear and Boris raced a very clean race
staying right on our tail and nobody touched anybody."
J.R.
Roahrig started on the outside of the front row had the hot foot early
building a four car length lead and led the first 56 laps before
fading to fourth late in the race. Scott Hantz capped a busy evening,
in which he finished third in the Main Event Outlaw Late Models 100
lap race prior to the CRA race, by finishing fifth and winning a
Hoosier Racing Tire Performance Award and was working hard on Roahrig
as the race wound down.
There was close racing throughout the
field with 15 year old Landon Cassill racing his way to his fourth Top
Ten finish in four CRA races by finishing sixth and received a Hoosier
Racing Tire Performance Award. Bobby Parsley, who also did double duty
and won the 100-lap Main Event race, pushed Cassill and finished
seventh. CRA Super Series points leader Eddie Hoffman finished eighth
holding off Bicycle Clay Poker Chips – Menards Fast Qualifier and new
track record holder Chris Gabehart who finished ninth with Kenny
Tweedy finishing tenth in a very close pack of cars.
The rain was a constant threat
throughout and the race was yellow flagged twice
due
to rain, on lap 6 and lap 43, before being stopped on lap 91. Sixteen
of the twenty-six cars that started the race finished with fifteen on
the lead lap.
Zach Dunson, racing in his first CRA
Super Series Event, was the Lane Automotive/ISKY Racing Cams
Hardcharger Award winner. Dunson gained eight positions with his
seventeenth place finish. Scott Hantz was the Howe Performance Award
winner by gaining seven positions in Sunday’s event. J.R. Roahrig
earned the RaceTrailerSales.com Halfway Leader bonus. Neil May, Crew
Chief for Belott, earned the Marvel Mystery Oil Mechanic Of The Race
Award.
The next CRA Super Series Presented
By Spray Power event will be the Sizzle Marine 125 Presented By EMH&T
on Saturday night, June 4 at Columbus Motor Speedway. That event will
be part of Third Annual Buckeye Bash. More information is available
