Scott Hantz Wins The
Federated Auto Parts 150 For Second Straight Sunoco Super Series Win
Columbus, OH (September 12, 2004)
– Scott Hantz has suddenly turned a streak of bad luck into victories by
getting his second Sunoco Super Series victory in a row in the Federated
Auto Parts 150 at Columbus Motor Speedway, which was part of the 2nd
Annual Federated Auto Parts Buckeye Bash Presented By Country Legends 95.5
on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Columbus, Ohio.
Hantz’s victory was hard earned, as he
had to fight off the persistent challenge of ASA Racing Series competitor
Robbie Pyle. Pyle, a former Columbus Motor Speedway competitor competing
in his first ever Sunoco Super Series event, kept the pressure on Hantz
all the way until the checkers. Pyle, competing in an ASA Late Model
Series car with a Chevrolet Crate Engine, had Hantz sideways several times
late in the event, but Hantz managed to make some great saves to hang on
for the win over Pyle.
"Boy that was really exciting," exclaimed
a very happy Hantz in victory lane. "I didn’t think we were going to pull
it out, but we did. Our car went away towards the end of the race and
Robbie’s seemed to be getting better. It’s really hard to pass here,
Robbie was doing everything he could to get around me, but that’s part of
racing hard for a win!"
Former ASA Racing Series Champion and
current Hooters Pro Cup Series driver Gary St.Amant held on for a third
place finish in front of his hometown fans. St.Amant jumped out to an
early lead in the event from his outside pole starting position until
Hantz powered by to take the lead on lap 37 bringing Pyle to second with
him.
Steve Moenck got a hard earned fourth
place finish, which earned him the Backstretch Performance/Blake
Carburetion/Reed Cams Rookie Of the Race Award, his fifth such award of
the season. Eddie Van Meter also turned around a streak of bad luck and
hard crashes with a fifth place finish with some great passes towards the
end of the event.
NASCAR Nextel Cup driver Ken Schrader,
who was making his second straight appearance in the Federated Auto Parts
Buckeye Bash Presented By Country Legends 95.5, had his day come to an
abrupt end on lap 97. Schrader has his right front tire climb the left
rear tire of current Columbus Motor Speedway Outlaw Late Model point’s
leader Tim Ice while trying to slow for a caution. Schrader’s car ended up
landing on the top left side of Ice’s car ending the day for both
competitors.
Sunoco Super Series point’s leader Chuck
Barnes Jr. was the Convenient Tire/Corteco Fast Qualifier, his fourth Fast
Qualifier award of the season. Barnes set a new track record in
qualifying, breaking Junior Hanley’s mark set in 2002. Scott Hantz was the
Rain One Corp/Kingen Interstate Express Halfway Award Leader. Hantz was
also the Sweet Manufacturing Sweet Move Of The Race Award winner for his
great saves to get the victory. Pat Anderson, Crew Chief for Hantz, got
his second straight Gladiator GarageWorks Crew Chief Of the Race Award.
Veteran series driver Junior Hanley was the ISKY Racing Cams/Lane
Automotive Hardcharger Award winner. Hanley finished seventh after
starting twenty second. Goodyear Performance Awards went to Eddie Van
Meter and Junior Hanley.
Scott Hantz got a second victory in the 2nd
Annual Federated Auto Parts Buckeye Bash Presented By Country Legends
95.5. Hantz won the Sizzle Marine 75 Presented By Germain Chevrolet Outlaw
Late Model Invitational with Don Whental finishing second and Gary Estes
finishing third. Bubba Parson won the BPS Superstore 50 lap Ohio Street
Stock Championship over James Harding in second and Mike Schweyer in
third.
The next Sunoco Super Series event will
be the Sunoco 150 Presented By Great Deals this Saturday, September 18th
and Anderson Speedway.
