DeGraff, OH (July 31, 2004) – With three second place finishes in the first 7 Sunoco Super Series events of 2004, Chuck Barnes, Jr. broke through and won his first Sunoco Series race Saturday night at the Shadybowl. Starting on the outside pole of the Ludlow Automotive & Accessories 150 presented by Lucas Oil Products, Barnes followed pole sitter Jim Crabtree, Jr. for the first 94 laps until Crabtree found a little moisture on the track and spun in the first turn. Barnes took over the lead and he survived a serious challenge from Junior Hanley before winning while going away.

"I got lucky, Jim had a strong car all race, but he got a little high and spun. I hate to pass him that way, I would have liked to race him, but I will take it anyway I can get it." Remarked Barnes, "We have been nipping at it all year long, and to finally win one feels great!"

Hanley finished second, just ahead of a hard charging Jeff Lane, who came from the tail after spinning on lap 46. Terry Fisher, Jr. continued a fine sophomore season with the Sunoco Series by finishing fourth for his second Top 5 finish in three races. Eddie Van Meter put on a spectacular show to finish fifth, coming from the back of the pack after being involved with a spin on lap 102 passing on the outside and moving through the field quickly.

Hanley maintained his slim lead in the season point championship losing one point to lead Barnes by 14 points with Lane falling a little to trail Barnes by 16 points. Hantz is in fourth, Bobby Parsley maintained fifth despite a rough day but losing points to both sixth place Chris Gabehart and seventh place Terry Fisher, Jr.

The race was relatively accident free with only five yellow flags until the 146^th lap when Frank Kreyer and Tim Phillips got tangled up with Kreyer sliding up high and hitting the wall. Kreyer was awarded the first Stith Motorsports Big Hit of the Race Award for the car that took the biggest hit during the day.

Eddie Van Meter took the Lane Automotive/ISKY Racing Cams Hard Charger of the race award, Chris Gabehart won the Backstretch Performance/Reed Cams/Blake Carburetion Rookie of the Race Award. Gladiator Garageworks Crew Chief of the race award went to Chuck Barnes, Sr., with the Sweet Manufacturing, Sweet Move of the Race Award going to Eddie Van Meter for moving up through the field in the last 48 laps. The Spray Power Clean Sweep Award was not awarded. The EMF Corp/Race-Tech Engineering "That's Racin" Award went to Frank Kreyer as did the Leaf Racewear Hard Luck Award. 

The next Sunoco Super Series Event is the Sunoco 100, Sunday, August 1 at the Toledo Speedway.
