Steve Moenck Wins The 16th Annual Neal Sceva Memorial
151
DeGraff, OH (May 22, 2004) –
Steve Moenck followed Scott Hantz for 143 laps of the
16th Annual Neal Sceva Memorial 151 Sunoco Super Series event,
 then
won when Hantz was forced to pull off do to a flat tire during a rolling
red flag to win his first race with the Sunoco Super Series on his first
visit to Shadybowl Speedway. Following close behind the Mokena, Illinois
native in second was Sunoco Super Series point’s leader Chuck Barnes Jr.,
who equaled his best series finish ever for the third time. Jeff Lane
finished third, Junior Hanley fourth, and Kenny Tweedy finished fifth.
"I’m so excited I don’t know what to say," remarked Moenck in
victory lane. " It was given to me, I didn’t have anything for Scott, I thought
I was fast, but I did not have enough
 to
pass him. I feel bad for him, but you have to be in the right position to win
them sometimes."
Hantz started on the pole, dominated the race and seemed to have
the race well in hand when Jim Crabtree, Jr. and Greg Boone had an accident on
lap 142 during a yellow flag bringing out a rolling red flag (the laps are no
longer counted, but the cars continue to circle the track) while both cars were
removed from the track. During the rolling red Hantz pulled off into the pits to
change a tire going flat and Moenck, who started on the outside of the front
row, inherited the lead. Hantz came back to finish Tenth.
 "It’s
a short tight race track and it’s hard to get back to the front from the tail"
commented Tweedy. Making the runs he, Lane and Hanley had all the more
improbable. With all three coming from the back to finish well.
Crowd favorite, Lane was involved in an accident that brought
out the first yellow on lap 9 that sent Lane and Tweedy to the tail. Not able to
run well during the next green flag run Lane went to the pits during a yellow
flag on lap 33 and was the last car on the track in 19th place. By
skillfully driving through the field Lane moved back up to finish 3rd
before running out of time while trying to catch Barnes.
Hanley and Tweedy also had problems early and were on the
 tail
after trips to the pits to repair damage in the first 50 laps of the race. Both
stormed back to finish in fourth and fifth places respectively, overcoming bad
luck not of their doing early in the race.
J.R. Roahrig had the fastest car at the start, setting fast time
and moving up quickly before spinning to bring out the first yellow flag. He
then was storming through the field before a driveline problem forced him out
during a yellow flag on lap 47.
 Hantz
led the 51st lap earning the Speed51.com bonus. Moenck won another
Speed51.com bonus for leading lap 151. Hanley won the Lane Automotive/Isky
Racing Cams Hard Charger of the Race Award moving up 12 positions. The Corteco
Fast Qualifier award went to Roahrig, the Spray Power Clean Sweep Award went
unearned again this week and will be valued at $1350 if the fast qualifier wins
the Sunoco 100 at Toledo Speedway on May 30. Goodyear Performance Awards went to
Junior Hanley and Eddie Van Meter. Fred Roemtler was the Gladiator GarageWorks
Crew Chief of the race. Steve Moenck was the Backstretch Performance/Reed
Cams/Black Carburetion Rookie of the race. The Sweet Manufacturing, Sweet Move
of the Race Award went to Jeff Lane, while the EMF Corp./Race Tech Engineering
"That’s Racin" Award was not awarded.

Driver Fined and Placed on Probation

As a result of incidents that happened at this past Saturday's
Sunoco Super Series event at Shadybowl Speedway, Sunoco Super Series
Owner/Driver Jim Crabtree Jr. has been fined and placed on probation
for violations of the Sunoco Super Series Conduct Guidelines. Also,
as a result of the other incidents at that event, Sunoco Super
Series Owner/Driver Greg Boone has been placed on probation for
violations of the Sunoco Super Series Conduct Guidelines.
Roahrig Sets Fast Time
DeGraff, OH (May 22, 2004) -
J.R. Roahrig sets fast time for the 16th Annual Neal Sceva Memorial
151. Jim Crabtree, Jr. qualified 2nd and Rookie Steve Moenck third.
Roahrig drew a 4 for the invert putting Scott Hantz on the pole to start
the race.
