Evan Jackson Wins Steve Keller Tri-Axel Trucking 100

Jackson
took the lead of the Sunoco Super Series Steve Keller Trucking Tri-Axle
100, Sunday afternoon at Indianapolis Raceway Park from 2003 Sunoco Super
Series Champion Bobby Parsley on lap 13 and led the rest of the race to
claim the victory, his second ever series win. Jackson won by five car
lengths, holding off several hard charges from Scott Hantz on several late
restarts in the event. Aaron Hulings had his best ever Sunoco Super Series
finish with a third place effort followed by Eddie Van Meter in fourth,
and Junior Hanley in fifth. The event was part of the first ever Hooters
Pro Cup and Sunoco Super Series combined event that featured 300 laps of
great racing on the same afternoon.
The 20 year old
Jackson had the hot car all weekend, running the fastest in
practice, but lost his chance of being the Corteco Fast Qualifier when his
hood came off during his second lap of qualifications, ruining his chance
to set fast time. The event saw great racing through out the field of 37
starters.
Ray
Skillman set a new Sunoco Super Series track record at IRP on Saturday
only to see two more drivers break the record after him. Chuck Barnes,
Jr., the 2003 Sunoco Super Series Rookie of the Year, set a new record
breaking the previous record by .130 seconds with a time of 21.628 to
claim the Corteco Fast Qualifier Award. Barnes then drew an 8 for the
inverted start putting Aaron Hulings on the pole. Barnes finished went on
to finish sixth. Hantz was the third driver to break the old record, but
his time was second to Barnes.
Jeff Lane,
who had been fast in practice had a rear hub problem just before
qualifying
and started 21st. He then ran through the field to finish
seventh, and was the fastest car on the track in the last few laps,
earning the Lane Automotive/ISKY Racing Cams Hard Charger of the Race
award. Kenny Tweedy started 17th, and then fell back to 35th
on an early pit stop, but charged back up through the field to finish
eighth in a very impressive run.
Also moving through the field in an impressive fashion were fellow rookies
Frank Kreyer and Danny Jackson. Kreyer started 25th , had to
moved to the rear after having to pit with a damaged right front fender,
Kreyer moved back up to 11th. Jackson started 30th
and moved up to 17th.
Ignition
problems ended solid runs from series rookie Steve Moenck and veteran Greg
Boone, both were running up in the money pushing forward when they were
forced to drop out.
There was one lead change, 8 cautions for a total of 34 laps, and no red
flags. Frank Kreyer was the Backstretch Performance/Reed Cams/Blake
Carburetion Rookie of the Race Award winner.
Goodyear Performance Awards went to Eddie Van Meter and Jeff Lane. Scott
Hantz received the Sweet Manufacturing, Sweet move of the Race Award for
his pass in turn two of second and third place. The Gladiator GarageWorks
Crew Chief of the Race went to Jimmy King, Crew Chief for race winner Evan
Jackson. Jackson also picked up the
Kingen
Interstate Express Halfway Leader award for leading lap 50 of the Steve
Keller Tri-Axle Trucking 100, which was Presented By Washington Square
Dairy Queen of Indianapolis.
For the first time ever Chuck Barnes Jr. is the new Sunoco Super Series
season points leader by 9 points over Eddie Van Meter, and eleven points
up on former points leader
Jeff Lane.
The new Backstretch Performance/Reed Cams/Blake Carburetion Rookie Of The
Year point’s leader is Frank Kreyer, two points ahead of previous leader
Chris Gabehart.
Chuck Barnes Sets A New Track Record
Clermont, IN (May 15, 2004) - Ray Skillman set a new Sunoco Super
Series track record at IRP on Saturday only to see two more drivers
break the record after him. Chuck Barnes, Jr., 2003 Rookie of
the Year, set a new record breaking the previous record by .130
seconds with a time of 21.628. Scott Hantz also broke the old
record to qualify second for Sunday's Steve Keller Tri-Axel Trucking
100.
Barnes drew an 8 in the invert drawing and will start 8th, putting
Aaron Huling on the pole. This is Barnes second Sunoco Super
Series Fast Qualifier award, he was the fastest at Winchester Speedway
in 2002. Evan Jackson was fastest in practice, but during the
second lap of his qualifying run his hood came loose, flew up and came off
tearing off some of his door in the process, ending his run early.
