Indianapolis, IN (September 7, 2005) – Keller Motorsports
and Tommy St. John proved once again that the fast highbanks of
Winchester suits their team just fine. After a disappointing
qualifying effort for the McGunegill Engine Performance 100,
St. John put on a show late in the race picking off cars one-by-one
and posting his best finish of the season. The 5th place
finish was the first top-5 finish for Keller Motorsports and their
third top-10 finish of the year.
"I just love that track! The car was a little tight during
the race but still fast. It wasn’t as fast as the last time we were
here but after the halfway point when everyone started slowing down,
it stayed consistent," said Tommy.
"We were running at end of a pack of cars and I was behind (Bobby)
Parsley when he bobbled and we got around him. I think I passed three
cars over the next few laps. Steve (Keller) told me to get up there
and catch the #6 car so we could have a top-5 finish. I got up on the
wheel and drove as hard as I could and we were able to finish fifth.
It was a great finish for us as so many people who help with the team
were there to be a part of it."
Eddie Van Meter took the lead from the start of the McGunegill
Engine Performance 100 and led for the next 75 laps, until Chuck
Barnes, Jr. caught him to take the lead and win his first CRA Super
Series event of the season. Van Meter started on the outside of the
front row, and early in the race seemed to have the car to beat.
Barnes started on the inside of the third row, worked his way through
the traffic and took the lead on lap 76.
