Winchester Speedway Adds Open Sportsman to October 16th Slate of Events

Open Sportsman to Include Sportsman, Super Stocks, Super Trucks, Mt. Lawn Limited Late Models and Indy Pro Trucks and Stock Cars All in One Class

Winchester, IN (September 22, 2005) – Officials from Winchester Speedway have just announced that they have added an "Open Sportsman" race to their schedule for the October 16th event. The "Open Sportsman" event will be in support of the Rich Vogler Classic for USAC Sprint Cars and a 40 lap feature for American Modifieds.

After receiving many calls from competitors wanting another shot at the legendary highbanks, officials decided to put similar groups together in an "Open Sportsman" division. They will run heats and a 40 lap feature. The "Open Sportsman" will be made up of: Sportsman and Super Stocks from tracks in the Midwest, SuperTrucks from Anderson Speedway, Limited Late Models from Mt. Lawn Speedway, and Indy Pro-Trucks and Stock Cars.

A base purse of $800 to win and $100 to start will be paid, as well as bonuses of $100, $50, $25 to the top 3 finishers in each of the following groups: Anderson SuperTrucks, Mt. Lawn Limited Late Models, Indy Pro Trucks and Stock Cars, and all others combined. There must be at least six cars representing each group for bonuses to be paid. Officials have decided that there will be no entry fee for this event. Basic rules call for a stock clip, five inch springs, and 8 inch tires from a limited list. Open Sportsman Rules:

Anderson SuperTucks may use any carb and any tire listed below at 3000 lbs. Mt Lawn Limited Late Models must use their rules at 3000 lbs. Indy 305 Pro Trucks and Stock Cars must use their Stock Car rules for both cars and trucks at 2925 lbs. All other unaffiliated cars must use rules below. All weights are after race with no refueling.

Cars must utilize American made O.E.M. front clip and minimum 5" coil springs. 3000 lbs. BASE weight

Aftermarket upper A-Frames allowed. Steel shocks only. Any rear end allowed.

Maximum 8" wide steel wheels only. The following tires are allowed: Goodyear (62, 63, 64, 65), Hoosier Commanchee (26.5-8.0-15 or 27.5-8.0-15), American Racer P 265/235/225 (705 or 704 Compound). No racing slicks.

Engine must be cast iron (block & heads). Headers allowed. Aluminum intakes allowed. Roller rockers allowed. Any two or four barrel carb.

Stock appearing aftermarket bodies are allowed. 5" x 60" max. spoiler. (Mt. Lawn cars may use their body rules.)

Officials may change the rules in the interest of fairness and safety at any time. Official’s decisions are final!

A full fire retardant driving suit, racing gloves and Snell 95 or newer helmet is required. A suitable form of neck restraint must be used (a neck collar at minimum). An aluminum racing seat with approved belts are required. Window nets are mandatory. All additional weight must be securely bolted to car and painted white with car number displayed. All safety issues are subject to approval of CRA/Winchester Staff.

Purse: $800, 400, 250, 225, 200, 175, 150, 140, 130, 120, 110, 100, on out to 24th. Plus Group Bonuses outlined above.
