Super Late Models to Vie for Big Money at I-70’s
World Cup Weekend
The 150-lap CRA
Sanctioned $5000-to-Win Event is Rich with Bonus Money for Outside
Teams
Odessa, MO (September 14, 2005)
– Officials from the Champion Racing Association (CRA) Super Series
and I-70 Speedway, recently announced the details of the Super Late
Model event during World Cup Weekend at the legendary ½ mile oval on
Saturday night, October 1st. The one-day 150 lap event
features a $5000 to win, $500 to start purse for 32 starting positions
and only four tires for the race. In addition, track officials have
posted bonuses of $400, $300, $200, $100 for the top four MARS
finishers, the top four USRA finishers, the top four I-70 regulars and
the top four finishers from the remaining unaffiliated teams. In
addition, each of the regular Midwest based CRA teams are guaranteed a
minimum $200 travel bonus. For more details on the complete purse and

The excitement around World Cup
Weekend is growing even more these days with the tight points battle
in the CRA Super Series. The World Cup event will be the next to last
race in the battle for the 2005 Championship. Heading into the race,
six different drivers still have a legitimate shot at the Championship
title. Currently, Bobby Parsley, the 2003 series champion, holds a
slim margin over Eddie Van Meter, Jeff Lane, Eddie Hoffman, J. R.
Roahrig, and Chris Gabehart in the tightest points battle in series
history. Four of the point contenders raced in last year’s World Cup,
where many will remember Lane and Hoffman looked to be the class of
the field early, only to find Larry Raines edge out Gabehart by ½ a
car length at the finish.
Even though the event will be a CRA
Sanctioned points-event, interest is high from many I-70 regulars,
including 2003 World Cup winner Jenny White. Besides participation
from the CRA and I-70 teams, calls have also been coming in from some
of the top names in ASA competition and other late model groups. In
addition, Jack Roush "Gong Show" finalist Chuck Barnes Jr. is expected
to make his World Cup debut. Barnes also won the prestigious
All-American 300 in Nashville last year as well as claimed the 2004
CRA Series Championship. Other stars expected to enter include former
North Carolina Short Track ace Dave Mader III as well as Wisconsin
standout Ryan Mathews, just to name a few.
Through the years, the World Cup
event was heralded as one of the premier late model races in the
country. Some of the top names in motorsports have been a part of the
event, including NASCAR Stars Rusty Wallace and Mark Martin, ASA Stars
Dick Trickle, Mike Garvey, Mike Eddy and 2003 Champion Kevin Cywinski,
plus local heroes John O’Neil, 2003 Track Champion Jeff Klem and the
2003 World Cup winner Jenny White.
A great weekend of racing is planned,
as support divisions of Modifieds, SuperTrucks, Super Stocks, Dash
cars and Enduros will practice, qualify and run heat races on Friday
night. Friday night Modifieds will run their World Cup 2005 Feature.
The remaining classes will run only features on Saturday night of
World Cup Weekend headlined by the CRA Super Series 150.
