Chuck Barnes Jr. To
Challenge The Highbanks Of I-70 Speedway
Louisville, KY (September 26,
2005) – Chuck Barnes Jr. Racing will make the long haul to Odessa,
Missouri to compete in this Saturday’s World Cup 150 CRA Super Series
event at the legendary I-70
Speedway.
It will be the first ever visit to the ½ mile highbanked facility for
Barnes Jr., who has become a "Master of the Highbanks" with numerous
victories and the track record holder at the highbanks of Salem
Speedway and added a victory at the highbanks of Winchester Speedway
to his resume in winning the Labor Day Weekend CRA Super Series event
held there on September 5th.
"It would be really neat to get a win
there this weekend," remarked Barnes Jr. "There’s probably not a lot
of racers who have gotten a victory at three of the most famous
high-banked half mile facilities in the country. I really wanted to
race there last season in the World Cup 300 non-points event, but we
were coming to the end of the season fighting for the series
championship and we didn’t want to take a chance on losing a car with
only a couple of races left in the season. This year there’s no
pressure since we are not running for points, I can just go out there
and try to win the race!"
Barnes Jr. was seen in a different
car this past weekend at the CRA Super Series event at Rockford
Speedway. Barnes was racing for the Greg’s Motorsports Team out of
Akron, Ohio in the Chicago International Trucks 250, the main event of
the 40th Annual National Short Track Championships at
Rockford Speedway.
"Greg
Pruety, the owner of Greg’s Motorsports, contacted me on Tuesday
looking for a driver for the Rockford event. We had decided not to
race that event with our car, we wanted to focus on the upcoming CRA
Super Series events at I-70 Speedway and at Salem Speedway and then
get ready to defend our win in the All American 300 at the Music City
Motorplex in Nashville in November. I decided to give them a hand,
even though I didn’t know anything about the team are the car."
"We went to open practice on Friday
and really struggled, this was my first time in a Rander Car Chassis,
we had to totally change the geometry of the front end Friday night
and replace a broken transmission. Things got better on Saturday, we
were able to qualify 12th against a great group of drivers,
many of whom have a lot more experience at Rockford than me. It was a
shame the race got postponed because of the rain, I was really looking
forward to racing the show, I’ll have to wait and see if things work
out for us to go back for the rescheduled date. I really appreciate
Greg giving me the opportunity to race his car."
The World Cup 150 at I-70 Speedway
will be a one day show with a two hour practice on Saturday afternoon,
qualifying in the evening, and racing under the lights. Barnes will
have some sponsorship help for the World Cup 150 from Clifty Farm
Country Ham, Cowboy Food Stores, Hall Brothers Trucking, Speed-Media,
and Hawk Performance.
Chuck Barnes Jr. Racing is still
