Weekend At Winchester Speedway
Salem, IN (October 11, 2006)
– Noblesville, Indiana veteran racer Joe Beaver
looks
to claim the 2006 Max 93.5/96.7 CRA Street Stocks Championship as the
series returns to action for it’s season championship event this
Saturday at Winchester Speedway as part of the 35th Annual
Ed Martin Auto Group Winchester 400 weekend. Beaver goes into the
event with a 58-point lead over second place Chuck Cook with 889
points and a 59-point lead over third place Brian Hopkins with 888
points. Beaver’s consistent top five finishes and one victory at Mt.
Lawn Speedway have kept him in the series points lead since the May 7th
event at Winchester Speedway.
Both Cook and Hopkins gained points
on Beaver in the series last event, the MAX 200 Presented By Pier-Mac
Plastics on Sunday, September 17th. Cook finished third in
that event, running with the leaders the entire event that was
eventually won by Beau Mitchell. Hopkins, a winner with the series at
Baer Field Speedway, finished in sixth in that event while Beaver
dropped out on lap 132 giving him a 15th
place
finish. Rich Boyer, a two-time series winner in 2006 at both the
series events at Anderson Speedway, is still in the hunt for the
championship, he is currently in fourth place with 883 points.
Bubba Trinkle currently sets in fifth
place with 827 points. Mike Riddle Jr. is in sixth with 804 points.
Craig Cookingham, the winner in the Labor Day Max 93.5/96.7 CRA Street
Stock event is in seventh with 777 points. Rod Phipps is in eighth
with 760 points, and Doug Riddle is in ninth with 723 points. Tenth
place in points is Beau Mitchell, the King of the Max 93.5/96.7 CRA
Street Stock events at Winchester Speedway this season. Mitchell has
won four of the five Max 93.5/96.7 CRA Street Stock events held at
Winchester Speedway so far this season including the $5000 to win MAX
200 Presented By Pier-Mac Plastics. He did not race in the Labor Day
show won by Cookingham.
The series is expected to draw close
to 40 cars for this weekends MAX 40 season championship event. The
2006 season was a very successful second year for the CRA Street
Stocks. To date the series has had 118 different drivers participate
in the 10 events held so far this season averaging 38 cars a show.
