Ryan Crane Ready to Race in Tradition-Rich
All-American 400
Youngster Appreciates History of Race, Adapts to New
Format
PANAMA CITY, FL (October 26, 2006) – Ryan Crane won’t be alone
next weekend in Nashville. With well over 100 racecar drivers entered
for the Super Late Model and ASA Late Model
portions
of the All-American 400 weekend at Music City Motorplex, you likely
won’t be able to dine, shop or drive down the highway around Nashville
without bumping into someone who drives a racecar.
It’s unlikely though that all of those drivers will have the same
amount of appreciation for the historic event that Crane has. The
young Floridian made his debut in the race as a teenager. Now, at the
age of 23, he knows the place in history that the race holds.
"I never went as a fan, but I had heard about the race," said
Crane. "In 2001, the last year of the 400-lap race for the NASCAR
All-Pro cars, I raced in it. I qualified sixth for it and was the only
regular from All-Pro Series (later to become the NASCAR Southeast
Series) to qualify in the top 10. That was with [Jeff] Fultz, [Billy]
Bigley and Mike Garvey. That was pretty neat. There were 70 or 80 cars
showing up then. There were guys like Butch Miller, Travis Kvapil,
David Stremme and Nathan Haseleu.
"I remember when it was All Pro and I’ve seen it change from a
300-lap race to now being a 200-lap race.
This year, Crane will race in the 200-lap Super Late Model portion
of the AA 400. He’ll adjust his strategy for the race accordingly.
"It will be a little bit more of a sprint race. You’ll be able to
run 100 laps, get tires and then run another 100 laps. You’ll have two
short segments. In the 300-lap race, you would pretty much race 100
laps, ride around for a 100 laps and then race the last 100 laps.
There will be some different strategy involved. 200 laps will be just
as fun, I just won’t have to sit in the car for as long."
Crane also knows that both his race, and the ASA Late Model event,
will be a real treat for short track race fans.
"I think that both races will be exciting and you also have all of
the history and nostalgia of Nashville. I like the track and there is
some good racing there. It should be a fun weekend."
The All-American 400 feature races will take place at Music City
Motorplex on Sunday, November 5th.
