Roush Racing: DRIVER X
To Premiere This Monday, October 24th On The Discovery
Channel
Louisville, KY (October 19, 2005)
– Roush Racing: DRIVER X will premiere this Monday, October 24th
at 8pm Eastern Time on the Discovery Channel, part one of the thirteen
part high energy series.
The
show will feature 23 tenacious young men, including Louisville,
Kentucky’s own Chuck Barnes Jr., and two determined young women. Two
3,400-pound race trucks with 750 horsepower. Two tough racetracks,
seventeen judges including legendary team owner Jack Roush,
scrutinizing their every move for the prize of a fully sponsored ride
on the Roush Racing Team on the 2006 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.
"Only Discovery Channel can put
viewers into the passenger seat of a race truck at top speed as well
as into the evaluation room where the real decisions, and drivers’
futures are made," said Jane Root, General Manager for Discovery
Channel. "Each episode will give viewers a never before seen look into
what goes on behind the scenes, from the science of the race trucks to
the determination of the athletes in the nation’s number one spectator
sport."
The Discovery Channel was granted
unprecedented access to the closely guarded competition to show
viewers, for the first time ever, what happens on the track and off in
Jack Roush’s "Gong Show". The grueling three-week contest was a
battery of rapid succession test that challenged the competitor’s
physical and mental strengths, as well as their media savvy and fan
appeal. On the track, drivers competed on two of the most challenging
tracks on the NASCAR circuit – Martinsville Speedway and Darlington
Raceway (known as "The Track too Tough to Tame") Viewers will be able
to buckle up for the 150mph rides with the aid of on-board HDTV
cameras that recorded all the competitors laps.
While drivers must make split-second
decisions and endure extreme temperatures inside the race vehicle,
they must also endure extreme situations off the track includes hours
of sponsor and fan related activities such as signing autographs,
making commercials, question and answer sessions with the press, and
speaking in front of large groups and doing all those while
maintaining their composure and constantly keeping a smile on their
face.
Film footage was not only taken at
the tracks but also at each driver’s race shop, home and around their
hometowns. Follow all the action and the drama through out all
thirteen weeks, and see how the 2004 CRA Super Series Champion Chuck
Barnes Jr. does in his national television debut. Additional
