CRA Super Series To Be
Well Represented In The 38th Annual Snowball Derby
Salem, IN (November 28, 2005)
– The CRA Super Series Presented By Spray Power will be well
represented in this weekends 38th Annual Snowball Derby at
Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida. The weekend’s events will
include the Snowflake 100 for crate engine late models on Saturday,
December 3 as well as the 300 lap 38th Annual Snowball 300
on Sunday, December 4. The Snowflake currently has 57 entries while
the 38th Annual Snowball Derby has 62 entries. The Snowball
Derby could have one of its best all time field of entries with names
like 2004 winner Stephen Wallace, along with late model greats Kevin
Cywinski, Gary St.Amant, Hal Goodson, Dave Mader, Wayne Anderson,
Charlie Bradberry, Ricky Turner and Freddie Query just to mention a
few of the names that will be racing for the $20,000 first place
payoff.
2004 CRA Super Series Rookie of the
Year and 5th place finisher in 2005 CRA Super Series points
Chris Gabehart is entered to compete in his first ever Snowball Derby
with his Hendricks County Motorsports team. 2000 CRA Super Series
Champion and Rookie of the Year and 7th place finisher in
2005 CRA Super Series points Scott Hantz is entered for the Snowball
Derby. Hantz and his Dick Poe Motorsports team have competed in past
events with the Snowball Derby. Hantz will have a teammate for this
weekend, part-time CRA Super Series competitor Brian Nester will drive
the Dick Poe Motorsports entry for the Snowflake 100 on Saturday.
Nester drove part-time with the series in 2005 for car owner Tim
Burkett, who also helps out the Dick Poe Motorsports team on occasion.
12th place finisher in
2005 CRA Super Series points and first time series winner in 2005 Jack
Landis is entered in both the Snowflake 100 and Snowball Derby. Landis
did not qualify for last years Snowball Derby, but got to race in the
event when it was rescheduled because of rain, and Charlie Menard
could not make it back for the rescheduled show. Landis was the next
competitor that would have been in the race, so Jack got to replace
Menard and made the most of it coming from the tail to get a top five
finish.
16-year-old Landon Cassill is entered
to compete in both the Snowflake and the Snowball Derby this weekend.
Cassill finished in 14th place in CRA Super Series points
running a partial schedule while running full-time with the ASA Late
Model Series and finishing 6th in there season points.
Part-time CRA Super Series drivers
Boris Jurkovic and Ryan Mathews are entered to compete in this
Sunday’s Snowball Derby. Both drivers are coming off outstanding runs
in the All American 300 were Mathews led several laps before being
involved in a late race incident, but still managed to finish in 5th.
Jurkovic battled through out the event in the top five and was
battling Jason Hogan for the win over the last couple of laps, but had
to settle for a 2nd place finish.
Part-time CRA Super Series driver
Evan Jackson is entered to compete in Saturday’s Snowflake 100. The
three time CRA Super Series winner is a former winner of the Snowflake
100.
2004 CRA Super Series Champion Chuck
Barnes Jr. is also entered to compete in his first ever Snowball
Derby. The 2004 All American 300 winner and two time CRA Super Series
winner is hoping to use the star-studded event to help further his
racing career. Barnes Jr. is one of the drivers featured on the Roush
Racing Search For DRIVER X, 13-part mini-series on the Discovery
Channel. The show can be seen on Monday nights at 8pm.
The schedule of events for this
weekends 38th Annual Snowball Derby begin on Wednesday,
November 30th with Rig Parking and Tech. There will be an
open practice on Thursday, December 1st from 10am until
4pm. There will be more practice on Friday with qualifying for the top
30 spots for the Snowball Derby. Saturday’s events will include
qualifying for the Snowflake 100, final Snowball Derby practice,
Snowflake and Snowball Derby 25 lap last chance races and the Allen
Turner Snowflake 100. The 38th Annual Snowball Derby is
scheduled to take the green flag on Sunday at 2pm.
CRA Super Series officials will be on
hand at this weekend’s Snowball Derby events after attending the PRI
Show in Orlando on Thursday and Friday. The series has been hired by
Five Flags Speedway to score the events with its electronic scoring
transponder system. Fans can keep up with all this weekends’ action on
