CRA Super Series To
Team With The Hooters Pro Cup Series at IRP Again In 2006
Salem, IN (November 22, 2005)
– CRA Super Series officials and USAR officials have announced that
the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series will team up again with the CRA Super
Series for another
exciting stock car special event at Indianapolis Raceway Park in 2006.
The event will be moved from May to Saturday, June 17, 2006 and will
now be a one day show with all practice and qualifying during the day
and 300 laps of Saturday night stock car racing action under the
lights at IRP. The Hooters Pro Cup Northern Series will have a 200-lap
feature event that will be followed by a 100-lap CRA Super Series
Presented By Spray Power feature event.
"We are very excited to be having an
event with the Hooters Pro Cup Series again in 2006," remarked R.J.
Scott, Managing Partner of the CRA Super Series. "Fans will have an
excellent opportunity to see two of the top short track touring
divisions racing for 300 action packed laps under the lights at one of
the premier racing facilities in America. We are really looking
forward to working with everyone with USAR to promote this great event
again, we would like to thank Gene and Tony Cox of USAR for allowing
us to be a part of the IRP show again in 2006"
The Hooters Pro Cup Series has had
several former CRA Super Series drivers become both regulars and
part-time drivers with their series including two-time CRA Super
Series Champion Brian Ross and 2002 CRA Super Series Champion Joel
Kauffman, who have both become winners in the Hooters Pro Cup Series.
Other former or current CRA Super Series drivers competing with the
Hooters Pro Cup Series include Shelby Howard, Glenn Gault, Jim
Crabtree Jr., and Gary St. Amant.
Pole sitter Evan Jackson grabbed the
lead from the drop of the green flag the of Greystone Concrete 100
Presented By Galbreath, Inc. at Indianapolis Raceway Park on Sunday,
May 15th, 2005, many times pulling away to a several car
length lead, until a flat tire on a restart on lap 86 handed the lead
to Scott Hantz. Hantz had managed to close on Jackson during longer
green flag runs during the event, but seemed destine to finish second
until fate stepped in. Hantz had to fight off a hard charging Boris
Jurkovic, who was looking to make it two series wins in a row for the
series rookie contender. Jurkovic had patiently worked his way from
his fifth starting position to Hantz’s rear bumper when Jackson
dropped out. Jurkovic challenged Hantz for several laps until series
veteran Jeff Lane suddenly became a factor in the late laps causing
Jurkovic to have to turn his attention from passing Hantz to holding
off Lane for second. Fast Qualifier Steve Moenck finished in fourth
with JR Roahrig coming from his tenth starting position to finish
fifth.
The CRA Super Series has had thirteen
events at Indianapolis Raceway Park since the series started in 1997.
Brian Ross currently holds the record for the highest number of
victories with the series at IRP with four. Scott Hantz and Junior
Hanley both have three series victories a piece at IRP with Kenny
Tweedy, Fred Campbell and Evan Jackson all having one victory apiece.
