Champion Racing Association
Says Goodbye To A Major Supporter Of Its Series
Salem, IN (November 23,
2004) – Champion Racing Association, the sanctioning body for the
Sunoco Super Series, announced today that Sunoco would not be the title
sponsor of its Late Model Series beginning with the 2005 season. Sunoco,
which became the series title sponsor beginning in 2002 through this past
season, will focus on its motor sports sanctions that cover a larger
portion of their marketing area.
"We greatly appreciate the
support Sunoco has given our series since
they first
came on board as a team and event sponsor in 1998," remarked Glenn Luckett,
Champion Racing Association Director. "They started out sponsoring Todd
Oliver’s series team and one event at Salem Speedway. Sunoco continued to
grow their support every season after that including stepping up as the
series title sponsor in 2002 when Kendall Motor Oil stepped down. I want
to thank Bud Talbot especially, for his guidance, time and great interest
in the series.
"The series was great for
generating interest in and growth for the Sunoco brand in the Indiana,
Ohio and Michigan areas," commented Bud Talbot, Area Manager, Sunoco
Branded Distributors. "We were very successful using the series to market
to our distributors. I want to thank everyone with the series for doing an
outstanding job, I greatly enjoyed the time I spent working with the
series!"
The Sunoco Super Series name
will be changed to the CRA Super Series. Champion Racing Association is
actively seeking a new title sponsor for the series, when that sponsor is
signed, their name will be added to the title of the series.
"Make no mistake we will be
racing in 2005," remarked R.J. Scott Founder and Managing Partner of
Champion Racing Association. "2004 was a phenomenal season for our series.
We had 147 different drivers compete with the series in 2004 and the
series averaged 30 cars a show, there are not too many racing series on
our level that can claim those kinds of numbers. We involved ourselves in
bringing back two great late model racing events in the World Cup 300 at
I-70 Speedway and the All American 300 at Music City Motorplex. We are
moving full steam ahead to have an even better season in 2005!"
The CRA Super Series will be
releasing the 2005 Car Specifications and Racing Guidelines in the very
near future as well as the 2005 race schedule.
"We are about 80% done with
the 2005 schedule," remarked Luckett. "We are very excited about that
schedule, especially with the momentum coming off such a great season in
2004. We hope to sign a Title Sponsor for the series so we can continue to
do the special bonus plans that were developed to provide our teams
additional income above and beyond what the purses pay at each event.
There will be some exciting announcements coming out soon about the 2005
season."
The last official Sunoco
event will be the 2004 Sunoco Super Series Awards Banquet on Saturday,
January 15th, 2005 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown
Indianapolis, Indiana. 2004 Sunoco Super Series Champion Chuck Barnes Jr.
will be honored along with 2004 Rookie of the Year Chris Gabehart and the
rest of the top fifteen in 2004 series owners’ points.
