McGunegill Sealed Engine Has
Successful First Season With The Sunoco Super Series
Muncie, IN (November 1,
2004) - Two of the top six drivers in the final standings of the 2004
Sunoco Super Series choose to use a new experimental sealed engine that
was tested by the Sunoco Super Series during the 2004 season. Series
veterans Rick Turner and Jeff Lane both utilized the McGunegill
Sealed
Engine that was built by McGunegill Engine Performance of Muncie, Indiana.
Prior to the 2004 season, the Sunoco Super Series saw the need to develop
an economical alternative racing engine that was competitive with the
present 9 to 1 engines that are utilized in the Sunoco Super Series.
The job at task was to
develop the power plant and have it competitively equal to the present
engine while being more affordable for the teams to purchase and race an
entire season. They met with DeWaine McGunegill and the work began over
the Winter of 2003/2004…In the Spring of 2004 the new engine was tested at
Anderson Speedway and was found to be just as competitive as the 9 to 1
engines. Now the task was to see if it could be as dependable and cost
efficient to run.
The verdict is now in and
the McGunegill Sealed Engine performed flawlessly the entire season.
Series veteran Rick Turner, in the Great Deals Coupon Magazine #26 Monte
Carlo, was chosen by McGunegill Engine Performance to test the engine
through out the 2004 season. Turner had 3 top 5’s and 8 top 10 qualifying
runs, while having 10 top10 finishes for the season and 2 top five runs to
finish 6th in the 2004 Sunoco Super Series points. Turner said,
"The McGunegill engine performed with out a hitch, the only thing we did
all season was change the oil. We did not even replace the plugs." Turner
continued. "We had just as much power and the cost of the engine at
$13,000.00 complete is a saving for the racer." Late in the season Jeff
Lane purchased one of the McGunegill engines and was able to capture a win
at Bear Field Raceway in Fort Wayne, Indiana on October 17th on
his way to finishing third in the final Sunoco Super Series point
standings.
When asked about how he felt
on the test season DeWaine McGunegill said, " The engine proved to be both
dependable and powerful. The engine ran over 2500 laps and did not miss a
beat and accomplished everything we were trying to get it to do."
Glenn Luckett from the
Sunoco Super Series stated, " The McGunegill Sealed Engine test was a
success, the engine proved to be very competitive and very reliable. We
are not looking to replace the 9 to 1 engines, we are just looking to find
an economical alternative that would make it more affordable for teams to
race competitively in our series."
