Salem, IN (May 29,
2003) -
The Sunoco Super Series will return to Shady Bowl Speedway
this Saturday evening for the running of the Stapleton Automotive 150
Presented By Lucas Oil Products. This will be the fourth time the series
has raced at the challenging 3/10’s mile banked oval located in DeGraff,
Ohio. Shady Bowl Speedway has become famous for its challenging "bowl"
layout that sees drivers go up hill coming out of turn four to the start
finish line, and back down hill from the start finish line into turn
one. The backstretch is much the same from turn two to turn three.
Last season saw Jeff Lane, last week’s series winner at Mt. Lawn
Speedway, claim his second series victory on June 1 at Shady Bowl
Speedway. Lane passed J.R. Roahrig on lapped 134 and held off a late
charge by Scott Hantz to record the victory.
Bull Baker, who inherited the lead after several altercations
involving the early leaders of the event, won the July race last season
at Shady Bowl Speedway. The series first ever visit to Shady Bowl
Speedway in May of 2001 was won by Jim Crabtree Jr., which is still his
only victory with the Sunoco Super Series.
All three previous winners are entered for Saturday’s event along
with qualifying track record holder JR Roahrig. Current points leader
Scott Hantz and Bobby Parsley who claimed his first series victory
earlier this season at Anderson Speedway are entered. Series regulars
Junior Hanley, Kenny Tweedy, Eddie Van Meter, Todd Oliver, and Evan
Jackson are also entered for the event. The state of Ohio will be well
represented by veteran driver Dave Jackson, and former Iceman winner
Scott Baker.
Pits will open at 1:30PM Ohio Time, practice begins at 4PM,
qualifying at 6PM with the nights race program scheduled to begin at
7PM. To get more information on Shady Bowl Speedway go to
